Business owners often ask me, "What can I do to prepare for employee ownership if I'm not ready to sell/convert right now?" My answer is: work on building your culture and the systems to reinforce it. Workplaces that already engage employees beyond the "do what you're told" level, and build systems to equip, welcome, and harness contributions from them help to build a culture of ownership AND innovation. When it comes time to sell to employees, your team is well-practiced at operating, iterating, and learning healthfully-- without you.
