It is with great sadness we announce the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez. ? On Sept. 17, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was investigating a traffic crash along SH 302 in Ector County when he was struck by a vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 28. ? Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was a true servant leader and a man of valor, honor and purpose. His legacy will never be forgotten. https://lnkd.in/gEWXH5Su

Fire as a weapon (FAAW) is the use of fire, smoke, or flammable materials normally used with other attack vectors that confound incident response and which requires an integrated response for incident stabilization. Criminals and terrorists have used FAAW in many incidents, including well-known incidents such as: Waco TX, 1993; Mumbai India, 2008; Ferguson MO, 2014-15; and Honolulu HI, 2020 as well as many smaller incidents. FAAW incidents are continually evolving, both in magnitude and frequency, and the training to mitigate FAAW must also continually evolve. This course will begin with lecture and discussion, then move to an offsite location for a hands on lab. Last week Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office hosted a Broaddus Defense Level 1 Co-Taught with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. 25 students were in attendance from local Probation and Parole, Air Force, Sheriffs Offices, and Police Departments. This course prepares the first responder to isolate, distract, and neutralize an active shooter. Classroom instruction covered shooting and moving, threshold evaluation, concepts and principles of team movement, setting up for and room entry techniques, approach and breaching the crisis site, secondary responder tactics, improvised explosive devices, and post-engagement priorities of work.
