Our Senior Architectural Historian, Courtney Mooney, traveled to South Dakota to present to the Tribal community the progress on an update to a National Register nomination of the Fort Totten State Historic Site to include the Fort Totten Indian Industrial School and Preventorium eras. The Fort Totten State Historic Site is listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its association with the efforts of the U.S. Army to protect travel and mail routes and to oversee the settlement of newly established Indian Reservations, and for its association with the implementation and impact of federal health and education policies on Native Americans. The Site is also a rare example of a largely intact western U.S. frontier fort dating to the mid-nineteenth century. We had an incredible time at the Shoot To Walk Sporting Clays Tournament in San Antonio over the weekend! This event, organized by HEALsci, is held to raise funds to assist victims of spinal cord injuries. HEALsci’s mission aims to help lessen the financial burden of individuals and their families affected by life-changing spinal cord injuries. We were proud to sponsor and be part of their impactful efforts. Our team gave it their all, with our top scorer hitting an impressive 97 out of 100 clays! It was a fantastic day filled with camaraderie, new connections, and support for a truly meaningful cause. To learn more about HEALsci and their mission, visit https://www.heal-sci.org/

Last week, our team had the opportunity to sponsor and attend the Environmental Professional Industry Charities (EPIC) RemFest event in Salt Lake City, UT! This year’s EPIC environmental conferences have been a fantastic chance to connect, collaborate, and gain insights from state regulators and industry leaders. The Salt Lake City event featured presentations from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ), a presentation by Altitude Environmental’s chemical engineer and water resources expert, a PFAS panel discussion, and much more—each session shedding light on critical environmental topics in Utah. We enjoyed the opportunity to learn alongside fellow industry professionals and strengthen relationships within our Salt Lake City community. We hope you’ll join us for the Northern Nevada American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Fall Conference in South Lake Tahoe on Oct 2nd-4th! We are proud to announce that our Senior Architectural Historian, Courtney Mooney, will be giving a presentation on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Section 106 requires federal agencies to take into account the effects of their actions on historic properties and provides a mechanism for agencies and communities to provide their input. Like NEPA, Section 106 can cause serious delays and cost overruns if not well understood and implemented appropriately. This session demystifies the process and defines roles and responsibilities. Stop by and see the Broadbent team on the exhibitor floor and catch Courtney’s presentation on Thursday, 10/3, at 2:25pm.

The annual Nevada Mining Association Convention always delivers an incredible three days of networking, learning, and fun! This year’s theme, Inspired by Innovation, brought together some of the brightest minds in the industry to share insights on topics such as innovations at Nevada's colleges and universities, advancements in sustainability, and the exciting future of human innovation. Plus, the beautiful setting of South Lake Tahoe provided the perfect backdrop for recreational activities, offering a chance to connect with fellow professionals and bond over shared interests. It was an honor to celebrate the achievements of our industry colleagues at the Celebration of Excellence Dinner where our governor, Joe Lombardo, presented Safety and Reclamation awards! #NVMACon2024
