501(c)(3) nonprofit P2P LEARNING PLATFORM COOPERATIVE for building Community Owned Internet Networks #OpenAccess Fiber
关于我们
WE ARE THE INTERNET - ALL OF US! Together we can make the Internet be like the sidewalk connecting people, students, teachers, nonprofits and businesses without a toll booth controlled by private monopolies. Community Ownership: Better, Faster, Cheaper You may live in areas where big internet service providers are not providing any access. Or you may not be willing to pay the exorbitant prices those companies are charging. You can create your own access. We want to teach you how to create connections that are faster and cheaper than anything big Internet providers are offering.

Doug Dawson's predictions for 2025. The link to this interview skips the beginning and starts with predictions for the disruption of federal grants. They also discuss how the word "equity" may not be good verbiage to use with Republicans in power. We have been talking about "freedom to connect" having been influenced by the Conference with that name that I attended years ago. I have also written about equality of opportunity, versus the word equity, which is sometimes misinterpreted as "communism." https://lnkd.in/e9tVxKN4

All of our training materials are licensed as Creative Commons for reuse with an attribution, noncommercial use license. Contact us to collaborate with respect to the following: 1. Community Engagement Initiatives: Many institutions emphasize community involvement, with students participating in volunteer activities such as community clean-ups, repairs, and food bank support. The cooperative could collaborate with these institutions to integrate digital literacy and broadband access projects into existing initiatives, enhancing the university’s community service impact. 2. Research and Development Projects: Institutions often have strong applied research programs in areas like autonomous vehicles, medical research, and crash safety. Partnering on research projects focused on community-owned internet networks and digital equity could leverage the university’s expertise and resources. 3. Student Co-op and Internship Programs: Many universities have cooperative education programs that require students to complete multiple co-op terms, providing them with paid work experience in various industries. Offering co-op positions or internships within the cooperative can provide students with hands-on experience in building and managing community internet networks, aligning with their academic and professional development. 4. Educational Workshops and Training: The cooperative could collaborate with institutions to develop and deliver workshops or training sessions on topics like community management, digital literacy, and the development of community-owned internet networks. These programs could be integrated into existing curricula or offered as extracurricular activities, benefiting both students and the broader community. 5. Utilizing Campus Facilities and Resources: University campus facilities, such as learning commons and various research labs, could serve as venues for collaborative projects, workshops, or research initiatives. Access to these resources can enhance the cooperative’s capacity to deliver educational programs and conduct research. 6. Joint Grant Applications and Funding Opportunities: Collaborating on grant applications for projects aimed at promoting digital equity and community empowerment can provide funding and resources to support joint initiatives. Many institutions have experience in securing grants, such as the National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation grants, which could be beneficial in this regard.
