BAB CEO Duncan Edwards OBE was quoted in BBC News yesterday regarding new tariffs on Automobiles and Automobile Parts imports by the United States: "Duncan Edwards, chief executive of BritishAmerican Business, a group representing transatlantic firms, said there was a "very strong case to be made" that the UK should be free from all US tariffs. ""Unlike other trading relationships, the US and UK do not have a trade imbalance, nor is there a significant disparity in wage structures or labour standards and if anything, the UK is at a disadvantage with its higher energy costs," he said." Commenting on the new US Tariffs on Automobiles and Automobile Parts, BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards OBE said: "President Trump made a clear campaign promise to introduce protective tariffs aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing in the United States, so the introduction of these new tariffs should not come as a surprise. "Setting aside the broader question of whether this part of the new economic agenda will benefit the US in the long term, BritishAmerican Business believes there is a very strong case to be made that the UK should be exempted from these and other tariffs that may be announced next week, and from the Steel and Aluminium Tariffs already in place.? "Unlike other trading relationships, the US and UK do not have a trade imbalance, nor is there a significant disparity in wage structures or labour standards and if anything, the UK is at a disadvantage with its higher energy costs.? "We urge the UK not to retaliate, to listen carefully to the American concerns, and to continue the efforts to reach an agreement that focuses on the future facing businesses at which both countries excel, and which provides the exemption that will benefit both economies."

Yesterday, BritishAmerican Business, in partnership with AmCham Australia, convened industry and government stakeholders from the UK, US, and Australia to advance discussions on AUKUS' top priorities. The annual AUKUS Dialogue, which took place in Washington D.C. on Wednesday March 19th, included delegates from a range of sectors including defence and security, energy, technology and trade. The roundtable talks explored the strategic goals of AUKUS within the current geopolitical climate and identified AUKUS’ main priorities particularly for progressing Pillar II. Other discussion topics included funding transparency and rising defence costs as well as country-specific regulatory reforms affecting Pillars I and II such as defence export regulations. BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards OBE said: "With new governments in both the UK and the US and increasing geopolitical uncertainty, it is important to reengage and revitalise the AUKUS partnership. Today’s talks were an opportunity for business and government to recommit to AUKUS and reaffirm its importance to our mutual security, sovereignty, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. “By strengthening collaboration between business and government, we can ensure that AUKUS continues to drive innovation, research and technology sharing as well as reinforcing our shared commitment to a more stable and secure future."
