The British Beauty Council was founded to represent the voices, opinions and needs of the British beauty industry at government level. We represents all sectors of the beauty industry: hairdressing, cosmetics, cosmetic surgery, therapy and spa in all areas from formulation, to manufacture, packaging, design, retail and media. The British Beauty Council promotes the interests of people and companies engaged in all sectors of the beauty business. It advises on policy to deal with issues impacting on the industry, and engages in political lobbying to ensure new legislation benefits its members. British Beauty Council also undertakes research to track market trends and forecast the business opportunities and challenges facing the industry in coming years. We work to ensure that the beauty industry is recognised and valued at all levels of government, through the wider economy and by consumers.

The British Beauty Council has commissioned a report by Pragmatix Advisory showing the impact of the Autumn Budget 2024 on the beauty industry as a whole. The analysis finds that: - The National Minimum Wage increase and changes to employer National Insurance thresholds and rates, will see the beauty industry face over £400 million in annual increased staff costs, which is the equivalent of around 20,000 jobs. - As part of this, the reduction in National Insurance threshold coupled with the increase in rates of contributions will cost the industry £260 million. - And hairdressing and beauty services will see the highest increase in staff costs followed by beauty retail, with costs increasing £190m and £160m respectively. This is a devastating blow to an?industry that relies heavily on labour to carry out essential services to the high streets, across Britain’s cities, towns and villages. The British Beauty Council is working with stakeholders and the government to look at ways of mitigating this impact through targeted support.
