#1FDay 2025, what an amazing success! Together with Cathy Cawley Simon Lal we hosted an awareness event; it was educational, fun and engaging! Simon Lal presented some background information about IF, invited patient input and shared information about HPN around the world. An action-packed event, talking to patients and carers is always a highlight of an event for us! Sharing ideas and helping them adjust and cope to life with #IF and #homeparenteralsupport is so satisfying. Sharing stories and listening to how they live their life with IF. Our PINNT Mascot, Drippy Bear came out of retirement and he thoroughly enjoyed the event; loved the colouring and games the children played. Our organ apron was a huge success, a great way to explain what bits some people no longer have our have a reduced length of the gut. Thanks to all those who came along and to everyone who came to our stand as well as all our sponsors. Our campaign continues: making intestinal failure visible! It's the start of Feeding Tube Awareness week, 2-8 February 2025. ?? Tube feeding is where essential nutritional support is given via a medical feeding tube, the nutrition goes directly into the stomach or intestine. ?? This is given where people cannot eat food in the usual way and take all or some of their nutrition via feeding tube. ?? Not all people with a feeding tube are nil by mouth, this will vary depending on their medical situation. ?? Feeding tubes may be required for short or long-term use, it will depend on the individual’s needs. ?? People of all ages may need a feeding tube, some people will be independent with their feeding and care, others will rely on the support of friends and family. To mark #WorldCancerDay, we're recognising the importance of good nutritional care for people living with cancer. The impact of cancer treatment together with the local effects of a tumour, unintentional weight loss, pain, changes in appetite, and other potential side effects of therapies all add to the risk of decline in the nutritional wellbeing of cancer patients. The most recent findings from the Malnutrition Action Group’s National Screening Survey found that those with a primary diagnosis of cancer were most at risk of suffering from malnutrition in care settings (62% at risk).
