I had a great conversation with Jesse Whittock at Deadline Hollywood about how the global market is adapting to novel and creative ways to finance television shows, and, of course, how BritBox is playing a key role in that process. It is an especially poignant topic this week as the entertainment industry is focused on London with BBC Showcase, London Screenings, and MIP London all taking place, and many of the shows being taken out to the market are the output of these new funding models. We are very proud to be supporting such ambitious creative talent, and can’t wait for our current and future audiences to enjoy more of the best of British television with us.

We had an incredible time celebrating the premiere of A CRUEL LOVE: THE RUTH ELLIS STORY, a compelling drama that sheds new light on one of Britain’s most infamous true crime cases. Last night, we welcomed actors Lucy Boynton (starring as the titular “Ruth Ellis”) and Bessie Carter (“Carole Findlater”), writer Kelly Jones, and executive producers Kate Bartlett and Antonia Gordon from Silverprint Pictures for a New York City screening of Episode One and a thoughtful conversation moderated by Mara Webster. Afterwards, guests joined the BritBox team including President Robert Schildhouse and Chief Marketing Officer Diana Pessin with CEO of BBC Studios Global Media & Streaming Rebecca Glashow for a lovely reception at The Crosby Street Hotel (Firmdale Hotels PLC). What I didn’t have on my 2024 bingo card was a reference in the show that has consistently influenced the popular zeitgeist for the past 35 years, but here we are. Yes, in their 2024 Christmas special, The Simpsons: O C’mon All Ye Faithful, we have officially arrived! An unexpected, yet triumphant, nod to the entire team at BritBox and our subscribers to close out the year!
