The Government should back cheaper local energy. By slashing the cost of energy for those who live close to where it’s produced we can cut bills for everyone, putting more money in people’s pockets and encouraging businesses to invest and create jobs. Our mad energy system is forcing people to pay some of the world’s highest energy prices despite the fact Britain produces a huge amount of energy from wind - one of the cheapest forms of energy available. Our event with Octopus Energy was able to show how easy it is to build the clean energy we need to tackle climate change and cut energy bills. We set up a 28-metre-tall wind turbine in Hackney, generated enough energy to host a party, and packed it down, all in the space of a week!

Since Britain Remade launched 18 months ago, we've been speaking to people up and down the country. Everyone tells us the same thing: it feels like nothing works any more. The problems in Britain are clear. Energy bills are too high; we spend too long stuck in traffic or waiting for trains that never seem to come; and buying a home for your family is harder than ever before. It doesn't have to be this way. We could have cheap, clean power, warm, affordable homes, and fast, reliable transport. And we could export the technologies we’ve developed to the rest of the world, making it easier for them to decarbonise while rebuilding Britain’s industrial base.
