How do you help break barriers in #STEM? During #ScienceWeekIreland, our dedicated CSR STEM volunteers generously donated their time, experience, and talents to make a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work. This year, over 20 Scientists and Engineers engaged with primary and secondary level students to promote the exciting career opportunities available in STEM fields. At #BMSIreland, we are committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and fostering the next generation of STEM professionals. Through initiatives like these, we aim to inspire and empower young minds, breaking down barriers and creating pathways to success in STEM. We believe that by investing in education and community engagement, we can drive positive change and innovation for the future.

Our General Manager Guy Oliver recently spent time at the #BMSUK facilities in Moreton and Chester.?? ? The Research & Development (R&D) site in Moreton plays a vital role in developing new treatments and our chemistry, manufacturing, and control (CMC) activities. Guy was impressed to see in person how our significant investment in Moreton has advanced capabilities at the site, while sustainably driving our innovative work. ? A short trip from Moreton, Guy also visited the Europe Capability Centre (ECC) in Chester, which provides crucial business services to the UK, Ireland, and all of Europe across various enabling functions including finance, customer service, human resources, information technology, and more. ? Reflecting on his visits, Guy said he enjoyed meeting new colleagues and felt inspired by the amazing culture at our sites in the North West. ? As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations for #GlobalPatientWeek, we had the privilege of being joined by Nick, who shared his experience of living with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Nick courageously opened up about his journey to an #HCM diagnosis, how the condition has changed how he’s able to live his life, and the challenges he faces daily. Nick’s testimonial served as a poignant reminder of why we do what we do every day and the impact our work can have on patients. #BMSUK ????

Did you know that 6,700 people are diagnosed with #StomachCancer every year in the UK? Stomach cancer is often diagnosed at later stages due to vague and easy-to mistake symptoms, but early-stage diagnosis can lead to improved outcomes. In our recent ‘1,000 voices, not 1’ report, we found that many factors lead to delays in diagnosis and differences in people’s experience of cancer – no one’s story is the same. Factors that may lead to delays in diagnosis include low awareness of cancer and associated symptoms and challenges accessing services. This was the case for Belinda who was diagnosed with stomach cancer at age 66. Hear some of Belinda’s story in this video, as she talks about how her awareness of stomach cancer impacted her journey. This Stomach Cancer Awareness Month, we want to raise awareness of the symptoms of stomach cancer and the importance of speaking to your GP about any symptoms you’re concerned about. Symptoms of stomach cancer can include, but are not limited to: ? Persistent indigestion ? Stomach pain ? Feeling / being sick ? Difficulty swallowing ? Unexplained weight loss ? Feeling full after eating small amounts of food If you experience any unusual symptoms, please speak with your healthcare professional immediately. Learn more about Belinda’s experience with cancer and download the ‘1,000 voices, not 1’ report at cancerequals.co.uk. #BMSUK #CancerEquals #HealthInequalities #StomachCancerAwarenessMonth
