“She is my eyes and she helps me be happy in my home,” Miss G said about her BrightStar caregiver Maddison L. After the love of her life passed away and her vision began to deteriorate, Miss G needed the support of someone just like Maddison. Describing her as bright, cheery and fun to be around, Miss G also praises her commitment to safety. “Maddison has greatly impacted my life; I’d have to be in a facility without her,” Miss G shared. “I depend on her for things I can’t do anymore. Now, there are things I’m able to do that I wouldn’t be able to do without her. She treats me like family and it feels like she’s my family in spirit.” Miss G says that Maddison is always so happy and bright — and fills her house with light. A combat veteran suffering from PTSD, Shawn was initially skeptical of his caregiver, Charlotte J., CHHA. In fact, he opened his door just a few inches when Charlotte arrived for her first shift. He wanted to know her name and see her badge before letting her in — both literally and figuratively. As a caregiver for BrightStar Care, Charlotte knows it takes time to build a relationship with each client, so she let Shawn set the pace of getting to know each other. Over time, Shawn began to “like, trust and value Charlotte very much” and said that she goes above and beyond his expectations. When Shawn initially met Charlotte, he was in the midst of a deep depression and his home was — in his own words — haphazard and chaotic. She helped him take control of his home, guiding him to a place of order and organization. “If I’m sad or depressed, she kindly and patiently listens to me and allows me to express myself,” Shawn said. “Charlotte is a Godsend and I’m so grateful.” So, is Shawn glad he opened the door and invited Charlotte in?
