    It’s been an active weekend in social media news! ?? After President Trump’s executive order, TikTok’s ban was temporarily paused for 75 days. And it's just one of the notable updates in the ever-changing landscape of social media so far in 2025. We're seeing big platforms pivot to fit TikTok’s video-focused format: YOUTUBE SHORTS GETS LONGER ?? YouTube is expanding its Shorts video length to 3 minutes! This is an great opportunity to create helpful content in a format some audiences are preferring, with more time to share your message. INSTAGRAM SHIFTS TO VERTICAL?? Notice your Instagram post thumbnails looking different? Instagram has moved to a more vertical-aligned display, shifting focus to Reels and video. It’s a good time to update your strategy and include more video content to connect with your audience! TIP FOR INSTAGRAM CONTENT ?? Remember to format your posts to fit these updates! By now, you've probably noticed that Instagram has switched up your profile grid layout from the classic 1:1 square to a taller 4:5 ratio. ?? We know this has stirred up a lot of mixed feelings - our thoughts are with everyone who carefully curated their feed over the years. We're feeling it too! ?? (And a special shoutout to all the social media managers out there this week... hang in there!????) But, don't let this deter you from posting! We've put together the ultimate Instagram size guide, covering all content types and sharing our top tips for posting on the platform! ? Unfortunately, the changes don't stop here. Instagram has more updates on the horizon. Here's what you can expect: ?? Reels are getting longer, extending to 3 minutes long (We see you Mr Zuckerberg, trying to be TikTok??). ?? New customisation options for thumbnails and feeds. ?? Instagram story highlights will move from the top of your profile to its own dedicated tab (Just like Reels). ??     Rule of thumb for social media platforms: Facebook is about community. You’ll see lots of groups to join as you scroll. Create or join groups and build community with people. Instagram is about engagement. Engage with people through polls (in stories and captions), sharing links, commenting, sharing Reels, etc. LinkedIn is about connecting with professionals. Connect with everyone you meet, interact with them, and form relationships like you would if you were taking a client out to lunch. Share your professional insights and experiences to highlight your expertise, via posts and newsletters. Join groups related to your professional development and interests. TikTok is a search engine and has an in app video editor. Use all of its features to make sure your posts are picked up by the search (on screen text, music, location, caption, etc). The more you give it, the more you’re likely to be tagged in a search topic. Even better if you’re using the sister app, CapCut, to produce videos and share them to TikTok. YouTube is where you’re going to go for long form video, with things like tutorials, and it’s a search engine much like TikTok. Post your video podcast recordings here in full, and share clips in YouTube shorts, as well as in shorter clips across other platforms. Make sure you’re using the description and captions to get your keywords picked up by the search engine. X, Threads, and Bluesky Social are mostly used as news aggregators, where you can get the TL;DR on news stories and share your thoughts on them with others in short form. They’re also used for storytelling in longer form via the thread functions. This is where you go to spark and join conversations about current events. What else would you add?

    If you're a #nonprofit, stop making this mistake in your emails... HERE IT IS... Making the first sentence a hard to read paragraph of text. Why? Well, if it's hard to read... ...people won't read the rest of your email. [HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I MEAN] "We are so grateful for our donors this year and if it had not been for you, we wouldn't have been able to support kids in need like we do." [HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO SAY INSTEAD] "You're incredible. In fact, without you, kids would still be hungry." Keep it simple. Stop sending complicated emails.   • YES to all of this. Growing a following organically takes time and effort, but the relationships you build along the way are incredibly valuable. Paid media can also be a great strategy for generating awareness more quickly. However, combining both organic and paid approaches creates a well-rounded marketing strategy for your organization.
