关于我们
The Bright Foundation funds college scholarships to support recipients in graduating on-time, debt-free, prepared to launch their careers and give back. Founded in 1957 by the late Lois and H. Dale Bright, the Bright Foundation supported many causes in the Des Moines metro and state of Iowa over the years. The first Bright Scholars program began in 2012 and continues today, supporting Iowa high school graduates attending the state’s public universities. “We worked hard, saved carefully, invested wisely, and gave back when we could. I’m always surprised when I remember such a simple formula amounted to so much.” ~Lois Bright

Idriss Abdullahi, a senior Bright Scholar at University of Iowa, shared his wisdom to other scholars as they get through midterms this fall! "Don’t stress so much about the things in life you can’t control and only focus on the things that you can. I’ve seen firsthand that when I start worrying about the things out of my control, everything else that was once in my control started slipping and the entire plan had changed. If we focus on the things we can control, then we can prepare for all the things and minimize our stress." - #brightscholarsia #workhard #seniorquote?

Read more below about all of her accomplishments and the amazing things she has done this summer! We are so proud of you and all your accomplishments! - "As a part of this role, I planned and lead all student activities at the 2023 and 2024 annual meetings. During the 2024 World Congress Meeting, in St. Louis, MO on June 8th?- June 12th?this included the student networking luncheon “The Proper Use of English in Scientific Writing” in addition to a workshop on “Single Cell RNA Sequencing." I also co-convened a joint session called “Templated Editing in Eukaryotic Systems for Gene Therapy and Agriculture." This experience has been monumental to my personal and professional development as I have had the opportunity to be the youngest ever student representative, committee member, plenary speaker, and now In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences (IVACS) Secretary (2024-2026). Recent University of Iowa graduate Hope Hjelmeland shared her wisdom as a Bright Scholar during Senior Send-off at the 2024 Bright Symposium.? - #brightscholarsia #brightfoundation #scholarquote? - "The Bright Scholarship has changed the course of my life and allowed me to grow and learn these past four years. My little wisdom: don’t put yourself in a box and don’t underestimate yourself. Try new things, explore a major or internship you weren’t expecting, take a math class or join a student org even if you’re scared. The years really do fly by, so take advantage of your opportunities and be sure to have time for fun and rest. Ask for help when you need it, you’re not in this alone; there are people on campus who care about you and want to see you succeed."
