Decades ago, we began by reclaiming old Chicago Common brick and diverting them from the waste stream. Before it was popular to reclaim, we established our foothold in the industry and have been making improvements ever since. These days, we're just as well known for our brick matching expertise, unique and specialty product lines, and top-tier customer service for jobs big and small. Our main offerings are focused upon the preferences and demands of the Designer, Architect, Interior Designer, Builder, Contractor, Homeowner, Owner, Developer. With our Sales Team, Support Staff, and long term family of Yard Staff we have the expertise to help you learn, select, and see the process through to the final bit of mortar dries. On view now at the Art Institute of Chicago: "Germane Barnes (born 1985) explores the connections between architecture, identity, and the complex histories that have shaped the built environment. While researching building traditions and the origins of Classical architecture, Barnes was struck by how Eurocentric histories ignored the cross-cultural exchanges that spread North African architectural traditions across the ancient Mediterranean. In response, and for his first solo museum exhibition, the Chicago-born architect has recast the canonical foundations of architecture through the lens of the African diaspora. The exhibition "Columnar Disorder" focuses on a fundamental element of architecture: the column. In an immersive installation of collages, drawings, and sculptural works, architect?Germane Barnes proposes three new column types—Identity, Labor, and Migration—based on the shared experiences he considers central to the African diaspora. Echoing the contours of tilled soil, the Labor column addresses the historical relationship between slavery and land—particularly in the American South, where the agricultural industry relied on enslaved laborers and sharecroppers. This iteration of the Labor column is made of brick, a material that evokes not only the earth but also a long lineage of Black builders in America—including enslaved laborers—who erected commercial buildings, plantation houses, universities, and even the White House. The work can be interpreted as an architectural monument to collective memory and a tribute to the Black Americans who built this nation."
