It took Stacey Tompkins, the president of Tompkins Excavating, 11 years to receive certification from New York State as a Minority and/or Women-led Business Enterprise (MWBE). Although the journey has been long and frustrating, Tompkins said she holds no grudges against New York State for the 11-year wait. Earlier this month, BACI (Building and Allied Construction Industries), the Westchester-Putnam-Rockland affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), conducted its inaugural meeting where the Board of Directors' officers were elected. A special thank you to Peter Florey, the President of New York State Builders Association (NYSBA), for delivering a comprehensive overview of housing legislation and environmental regulations in New York State.

Huge thanks to the Building and Realty Institute of Westchester and the Mid-Hudson Region (BRI) for inviting me to speak at their annual membership meeting. BRI’s “Welcome Home Westchester” campaign goal is to help build much needed housing while advancing the 2025 legislative session. BRI challenges everyone to commit to taking specific actions to address the affordable housing shortage. I shared the mission of HUD and encouraged members to stay connected with HUD staff. We all have a role to play and the only way to increase and preserve the housing supply is to work together.

This episode of “Building Knowledge” featured Garry Klein, Regional Manager at Houlihan Lawrence Commercial, discussing Westchester County’s commercial real estate market.
