Through this powerful documentary, A Letter To The West Side by Kameron Donald, we pay tribute to the trailblazers, celebrate the vibrancy of the once-thriving local businesses and schools, and shed light on the systemic challenges that led to the loss of the neighborhood. More than a film, this is a testament to the strength of the people who built the West Side, and a platform to amplify the voices of those whose stories have gone untold. Avalon Housing has honored Bunyan Bryant by renaming Arbordale Apartments, an apartment complex that was under a previous owner that denied Bunyan housing in the 1960's, to his name. In this moment, there is justice but we must continue to push back the boundaries of what threatens the right for fair housing. Breyko is grateful to have shared this moment with Avalon Housing, being able to tell the story of Bunyan Bryant & Jean Carlberg. Justice can sometimes come in beautiful ways.
