We are a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve our systems of democracy and justice.
关于我们
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that works to reform, revitalize – and when necessary, defend – our country's systems of democracy and justice. At this critical moment, the Brennan Center is dedicated to protecting the rule of law and the values of Constitutional democracy. We focus on voting rights, campaign finance reform, ending mass incarceration, and preserving our liberties while also maintaining our national security. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting-edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them – in Congress and the states, the courts, and in the court of public opinion.

One of the laws used for WWII-era Japanese internment is still on the books, and now some want to use it to deport immigrants on a massive scale. Here’s how we can avoid repeating the shameful mistakes of the past: https://bit.ly/4eUI5Vg

Trump has threatened to rely on the Alien Enemies Act to carry out mass deportations. It would be an abuse of presidential power that the courts must block. https://bit.ly/4fAoafc

There has been a tremendous amount of state election litigation, especially in battleground states, around how (and whether) votes will be counted. For my latest essay in State Court Report, I discussed recent major rulings in Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia. https://lnkd.in/eY4Rh2f5 .

Some critics have alleged that pro-reform strategies have driven increases in crime. Our team at the Brennan Center for Justice evaluated those claims, drawing on recent crime data and an understanding of how the criminal justice system works in practice. We found that these claims lack support. In fact, there is no evidence that pro-reform prosecutors are responsible for crime rising or falling.

Today I’m at Harvard moderating a panel on safety, punishment, and how we talk about both. This past election season saw no shortage of misleading claims about crime and justice reform, which my colleagues at the Brennan Center for Justice and I worked hard to counteract. There’s never been a better time to reflect on how these narratives develop and how they can be shaped. https://lnkd.in/egJvtYZv
