February 28th is Rare Disease Day ! I wanted to give a shoutout to Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center as we just had our annual family ski day with them this weekend. As GM1 has taken a firmer grasp on Kinley & Kennedy, they are no longer able to do even simple things they used to be able to do - let alone skiing. Until we were connected with BOEC, we thought sharing our joy of skiing as a family was no longer in the cards. Boy were we wrong. It may look different than we had in our heads, but this incredible group has made these memories possible. They are skilled, patient, and focused on providing the best possible experience! True champions of adaptive sports! We are so appreciative of the belly laughs we enjoyed this weekend. Meet Shannon Buhler, VP & GM of Keystone Ski Resort and the newest member of the BOEC board! Growing up in Breckenridge, CO, with a father deeply rooted in the ski industry, Shannon says it’s "in her blood." From early days at Breckenridge Ski Resort to leadership roles at Snow Creek, Vail, and Stowe, she’s come full circle back to Summit County. A passionate advocate for making outdoor sports accessible to all, Shannon believes snow sports should be inclusive and welcoming. As a BOEC board member, she’s excited to continue the organization’s impact on the community. When she’s not leading at Keystone, Shannon enjoys family time outdoors with her wife and two daughters. We couldn’t be more excited about the value Shannon’s expertise will bring to our team. March – October), you will play a crucial role in designing and leading training in outdoor skills, adaptive recreation, and safety protocols. You’ll help foster a culture of growth and inclusion, ensuring our staff has the knowledge and skills to provide life-changing outdoor experiences for individuals with disabilities. This position offers a chance to contribute to BOEC’s mission while working in beautiful Breckenridge, CO, with field work across Colorado and Utah. When Brittany and Josiah Loeser decided to start a family, they had no idea that their three children would be born with a genetic difference that caused deafness. When their oldest, Fletcher, was born, he was screened for hearing loss at birth so they knew right away that he was unable to hear anything. Over time, they settled on cochlear implants for each of the children to offer them the best hearing possible. Fast forward eight years and the Loesers are planning to take their children to the mountains to share their love of winter sports with them. This led to some trepidation given the “one size fits most” approach to group ski lessons.
