Today, more than ever, business leaders must understand the Four Vectors of the State, Society, Organization, and the Capital Markets that together shape the modern operating environment. To create enduring value, companies must navigate through the pushes and pulls of each of these Vectors, developing and executing strategies that balance their often-conflicting demands. Breakwater Strategy is designed to help chart that course.

I believe strongly in the critical importance of an open ecosystem for AI and cloud services. It’s critical for technology advancement, economic productivity, and competitiveness. That’s why I have long been opposed to Microsoft’s licensing tricks and restrictions that try to to lock customers into using its cloud services while dodging regulatory scrutiny. I wrote a piece for The Hill that explains the company’s history of restrictive licensing and outlines why regulators around the world, especially in the United States, should wait no longer to take decisive and corrective action. It’s encouraging to see the CMA, FTC and other regulators take a hard look at these policies. Industry players like Google Cloud are now weighing in as well. The sum of these market pressures and legal scrutiny should move us toward a more open, competitive cloud market where customers can choose the technology that works best for them at multiple layers of the stack.?That’s what the cloud promises -- and it makes no sense to allow anti-competitive business practices to ruin that promise.?Not for productivity suites, and not for AI. https://lnkd.in/eQ56DgVx
License to compete: Regulators must step in to even the cloud playing field??

"Mark's perspective on this has given me a whole new appreciation for how sophisticated and impactful IR can be. It’s a shift from reacting to what investors think to proactively shaping the narrative with data-driven insights. If you’re looking to make your IR program more data-driven, this episode is a must-listen. "
“Elevated IROs need to master the art of impact intelligence.” What does that mean? Mark Hayes, Partner and Head of Capital Markets Advisory at Breakwater Strategy, unpacks this concept in the first episode of our new Winning IR season. According to Mark, impact intelligence goes beyond traditional perception studies—it’s about gathering contextual and actionable insights that are tailored to your company’s unique needs and challenges. Imagine having a toolkit that not only tells you how investors feel but also equips you with the intelligence to make informed strategic decisions. How do you put it into practice? You ask the right questions that provide deep, business-specific insights. This will allow you to craft strategies that resonate with investors and elevate your company’s market position. Mark's perspective on this has given me a whole new appreciation for how sophisticated and impactful IR can be. It’s a shift from reacting to what investors think to proactively shaping the narrative with data-driven insights. If you’re looking to make your IR program more data-driven, this episode is a must-listen. Check out the full episode in the comments.
