REMEMBERING KIAH DUGGINS Kiah Duggins was an amazing woman who did so much in her short life, and she deserves to be remembered. Sadly, she was one of the people who passed away in the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C. But even though she’s no longer with us, we want to make sure her memory lives on and honour all she achieved. Kiah was only 30 years old, but she had already done incredible things. She came from Wichita, Kansas, and worked really hard to graduate from Harvard Law School, where she became the president of a special group that helps people in need. She cared deeply about helping those who are often overlooked or treated unfairly. She was also chosen for something very special called a Fulbright grant, which allowed her to go to Taiwan to teach. That’s a big achievement! Kiah came to @cocoagirlmag attention when she gave a Ted Talk in 2017, she shared her story about beauty standards and colourism. When she was a little girl, she dreamed of being a princess but was told by a friend that princesses didn’t look like her. This experience didn’t stop Kiah—she worked hard and even became a top ten finalist in the Miss Kansas beauty pageant. She was one of the people that inspired the @cocoagirlmag princess ball where over 250 girls were able to be princesses for the day. This autumn, Kiah was going to start teaching at Howard University Law School, where she would have inspired many more students. Kiah was a true visionary who always worked to make the world a better place. Rest in peace, Kiah. You were exceptional, and we won’t forget you.

Know who you are!
Cicely Tyson was a pioneering Hollywood icon who shattered racial and gender stereotypes over her seven-decade career. She nabbed the first recurring role for a Black woman in a television series, as Jane Foster in “East Side/West Side." She went on to win multiple Emmy and Tony awards. Most importantly, Cicely refused to take any roles that demeaned Black women, such as maids or prostitutes. She embraced strong female roles, paving the way for future actresses to do the same. Cicely knew the power of representation onscreen. #BlackHistoryMonth

In the wake of devastating gun violence that has shattered our neighborhoods and left our children and families living in fear, we are rising together to say, No More! This fall, we are reclaiming our community, and building a space of joy, safety, and unity for our children. It’s time to heal, rebuild, and create new memories. Project Pumpkin: A Harvest for Hope is more than an event, it's a movement. We’re calling on families, nonprofits, vendors, community leaders, and government officials to stand with us in solidarity. Together, we can create a safe space for our children and show them that they are loved, and valued, and deserve a future free of violence. How You Can Help Reclaim Our Community: Donate Pumpkins: Help us create a vibrant pumpkin patch that will light up the smiles of children who have too often been robbed of joy. Your donated pumpkins will symbolize hope, resilience, and the beauty of coming together as one. Share Fall Goodies: From warm apple cider to sweet caramel apples, your donations of fall treats will add extra joy and comfort to our community gathering. Let’s bring the flavors of the season to those who need it most. Financial Donations: Your financial contributions will go directly toward building a safe, festive environment filled with fun activities, beautiful decorations, and a sense of belonging. Every dollar helps us create a space where our children can feel secure and cherished. Why Project Pumpkin Matters: For too many children in underserved neighborhoods, traditional fall activities like pumpkin patches are out of reach. But Project Pumpkin is about more than just pumpkins, it’s about bringing a community together after hardship and loss. It’s about showing our children that even in dark times, there is light, love, and support around them. With your help, we can make sure every child experiences the magic and joy of the fall season, despite the challenges we’ve faced. Get Involved Today: Donate pumpkins or fall treats to bring our pumpkin patch to life. Contribute financially to help cover event logistics, safety measures, decorations, and activities. Spread the word to others who may want to contribute or join us in reclaiming our community. This isn’t just about pumpkins, it’s about taking back our community, restoring hope, and letting our children know that their lives matter. Project Pumpkin is our stand for peace, love, and unity. Together, we will build a brighter future for our children. For sponsorships, donations, or to learn more, contact us at: 757-837-6330 or [email protected] Let’s rebuild our community, one smile at a time. Thank you for standing with us in this vital mission.
