Beyond the Stopwatch: How BreakAway Data is Redefining the Standard of Athletic Measurement and Analysis This past weekend, I traveled to New Jersey for a USA Football flag tournament and talent identification camp at the New York Giants' practice facility. As a former NFL player, I could feel the nervous energy rippling through the facility, reminiscent of my own Combine experience. Speed and agility have always been defining standards in my career, and it was exciting to see a new generation pushing their limits. Breakaway's role was to facilitate the combine portion, utilizing our technology to capture key metrics on each athlete's performance. We split the 300 participants into male and female groups, each rotating through standardized drills: the 20-yard dash, 5-10-5 pro agility shuttle, and standing broad jump. Setting up our capture stations was challenging, requiring clear sightlines and ample space for the athletes to perform without obstruction. Technology was another hurdle. We rely on iPads and wireless connectivity to record and upload data in real-time, but getting a stable connection on the field was no easy feat. We used mobile hotspots, but upload speeds were inconsistent, especially between sessions when we had to quickly reposition everything. Throughout the day, we adapted on the fly. The grass fields became torn up from hundreds of cleats, and midway through, we relocated to prevent further damage. We broke down and reassembled in record time to keep the event moving. In the end, the camp was a resounding success. The talent level was exceptional, with many female athletes displaying skills on par with their male counterparts. Witnessing speed and agility translate from measurement to the field is always the ultimate goal, and many rose to the occasion. It was gratifying to see their pride as they completed each drill, knowing their results would become part of their permanent athletic record. I had the privilege of addressing both groups to explain the importance of the data we collected and encourage them to take ownership of their athletic development. Every sprint, jump, and agility drill matters in building their personal profile and pursuing their goals. Giving these young athletes a tool to unlock their competitive advantage and learn more about themselves is immensely rewarding. Events like these represent an exciting opportunity for Breakaway to expand its impact in the sports performance space. By partnering with organizations like USA Football, we can deliver a turnkey service that adds value for athletes, coaches, and scouts alike. With more reps and refinements, I believe we have the expertise to be a major player in combines and player evaluation. I left New Jersey inspired by the heart and hustle displayed by every athlete chasing their dream. They are the future of football, and I'm proud Breakaway could play a role in supporting their journey. It was truly a weekend to remember.
