Emergency Pantry serving everyone, no ID required. We're helping 56x more people this year. Food. Dignity. Compassion.
关于我们
We are community based and mission driven. Bread & Roses has achieved over four and half decades of fighting hunger with effective, grassroots programs. Bread & Roses’ mission is to address the core necessities of the Merrimack Valley’s community members with a holistic and welcoming approach focusing on food insecurity and promoting self-empowerment. We never require any form of identification or referral to access our services. We serve everybody. We do not accept any form of government funding and rely entirely on our community to fuel our mission. Our very small team ensures that our community has access to food and that their other needs our met and helps over 50,000 households annually. We do this through a variety of programs, including our Emergency Pantry, nightly Community Meals, laundry access, hygiene products, clothing, diapers, and more. We believe everyone has the right to healthy food and assistance. This year, we're helping 56x more people than last year monthly access food, clothing, toiletries and other essentials. Our Emergency Pantry uses the grocery store model to ensure that individuals and families have access to food that meets their cultural preferences and dietary restrictions. Our Community Meals are served restaurant style in our dining room or to-go, based on your preference and needs. Our environmentally friendly Food Rescue program is key to our meal programs, diverting thousands of pounds of food every day away from landfills. We rescue from restaurants, grocery stores, and businesses. Rescued food is distributed back into the community within 2-36 hours on average. Last year, we rescued more than 2 million pounds of food (more than the last five years combined) and distributed about 2.7 million pounds of food, most of which we purchased to supplement what we aren't able to rescue. We also receive donations from food drives which are also distributed to our community.

"No matter what, we will always be community based and mission driven." -Jessica Gordon, B&R Executive Director More than 3,000 people depend on our meal and pantry programs every week. Unlike traditional food pantries, our #innovative model provides high quality and nutritious food in a safe and indoor environment that welcomes everyone. Our Food Rescue program ensures that everyone, every day we are open, leaves with fresh produce, proteins, grains, and dairy products—everything folks need for a healthy diet. And we do this without any state or federal funding. Why do we do it? Because we've been there and we believe there is a better world possible. How do we do it? Because of your support! A donation of $50 can help one family access 36 meals. Can you help a family today? Give: bit.ly/MoreThanJustFood Want to make maximize your impact and invest in our community at less cost to you? Our Executive Director Jessica Gordon was on this week’s episode of the Carrigan & Company podcast! Jess shared how the growing number of people seeking food assistance has impacted our programs and how our Emergency Pantry’s evolution comes directly from the input of our community. Thank you so much for having us on Kim Carrigan, it’s a huge honor! Be sure to check out the full episode ??

?? Our volunteers make a real impact in their community, one meal at a time. ?? We’re incredibly grateful to the wonderful team at Digital Federal Credit Union for spending their Day of Service with us! They brought kindness, compassion, and a readiness to make a difference. From preparing our new volunteer space (more on that soon!) to lending a hand in the kitchen for a delicious Community Meal, DCU’s support made a huge impact in just one day! THANK YOU! Want to make a direct impact with your team? Join us for a day of giving back! This year, our Emergency Pantry’s impact grew by almost 1000%. But if we're being honest, on a daily basis, we don't really think about statistics. Of course, statistics are important and we track how we're making an impact, the pounds of food we divert from landfills and back into the community, and more! But...everyday, we aren’t thinking about end of year statistics and how much we’ve grown. We’re thinking about the person standing in front of us doing one of the hardest things in the world: asking for help. Our team has been on the other side of many non-profit doors. We’ve been handed a bag of cans. We’ve walked through a pantry with no one there to answer a question or answer the question in our primary language. We make it our mission to be different from these spaces. On a daily basis, we're thinking about learning what products people prefer and seeking it out from our Food Rescue Partners. We're helping someone fill out a job application or teaching a father how to braid his daughter’s hair. It’s an honor to know that thousands of people trust us with their family’s care every single week. We don’t take this fact lightly. So even as we track things everyday, we aren't really thinking about the numbers. All we are thinking is that this is about more than just food. This is a community. ?????? A big welcome to Colby and Bazl from all of us at Bread & Roses! We're looking forward to working together to fight hunger and empower our community across the Merrimack Valley.
Corporate Social Responsibility Associate @ Thermo Fisher Scientific | Babson College Graduate dedicated to making positive social impact.
I am very excited to be a part of the 2024-2025 Institute for Social Innovation's Babson Board Fellows Program, an experiential learning program that places Babson College Alumni and MBA students as nonvoting members on nonprofit Boards. Along with Bazl Taliaferrow, I was placed on the board of Bread & Roses - Community Kitchen and Emergency Pantry. I could not be more excited to be working with such an amazing organization, especially as it serves people located in Essex County, the county I grew up in. I look forward to what we can do together to continue to fight food insecurity and food waste! A huge thank you to Lisa Hellmuth Thomas for your continued support!
