Have you ever tried taking a break from social media, only to find yourself scrolling again within hours? You’re not alone.? A?study by Vaghefi and Turel (2024) explored why digital detoxes often fail and what makes them successful. Here’s the quick takeaway: (1) people with negative emotions (e.g., boredom or frustration) during breaks often return to social media faster. (2) people who had a positive mindset and belief in the benefits of the break were better at sustaining the break. If you are in the process or thinking about doing a digital detox here are some behavioral strategies to make your digital break stick: 1 Reinforce small wins. Instead of aiming for a week-long detox, start with a single day and reward your behavior for sticking to it. 2. Use antecedent strategies like scheduling no-phone times during your most productive hours. 3. Shift the function of use from compulsive scrolling to intentional engagement. Plan when and why you’ll use social media rather than letting it control you. 4. Replace doomscrolling with activities that fulfill the same needs (e.g., connection, novelty). Meet up with friends, go to a new cafe or place, FaceTime someone you miss or haven't spoken to in a while, or go for a walk or run to satisfy similar needs for connection and novelty. Making a digital detox successful isn’t just about discipline—it’s about setting yourself up for success with small, actionable changes. What’s your go-to strategy for staying off social media? #socialmediadetox #digitalwellness #selfcarestrategies #behaviorchange

?? What Really Drives Happiness? Let’s Break It Down ?? Have you ever stopped to think about what actually makes you happy? The latest insights from the World Happiness Report 2024 gave us some serious "aha" moments, and we had to share them with you. Best Highlights: 1. Social support was the number one predictor of happiness. Having strong connections and a support system makes all the difference. It’s a great reminder that our people—friends, family, community—are everything! 2. While money doesn’t buy happiness, a stable income (measured as GDP per capita) plays a significant role. 3. Longer life expectancy and higher education levels correlate with greater happiness. 4. The happiest people are mostly in Europe, North America, and Oceania, while those in Africa face more challenges. It’s a powerful reminder of how things like access to resources and equality play a role in our well-being. Takeaway for us: Happiness isn’t one-size-fits-all, but it’s clear that meaningful relationships, personal growth, and stability are foundational. For those of us balancing busy lives, careers, and the desire to thrive, this serves as a reminder: invest in connection, learning, and well-being—they’re your biggest assets for a joyful life. What’s been your biggest game-changer for happiness? We'd love to hear what helps you feel grounded and joyful—drop your thoughts below! New research by Oliver Scott Curry, Chloe San Miguel, PhD, and Mehmet Necip Tunc reveals that kindness in the workplace isn’t just a “nice-to-have”—it’s a powerful driver of happiness at work. Their recent study explored the relationship between acts of kindness (both given and received) and overall workplace happiness, highlighting actionable insights for employees and employers alike and here the main takeaways: 1. Acts of kindness to and from bosses, colleagues, and even subordinates DIRECTLY correlate with increased happiness at work. When kindness flows freely across all levels, employees feel more satisfied, valued, and connected. 2. Kindness FROM leaders has a unique impact. When managers practice kindness—showing appreciation, providing support, and fostering open communication—employees report HIGHER levels of well-being. Leaders can set the tone by being compassionate and creating a culture of kindness. 3. Beyond kindness, factors like meaningful work, fair pay, and competent management amplify happiness. Employees thrive when they feel their work matters, are treated equitably, and have supportive, capable leaders. 4. Finally, small actions—like showing appreciation, actively listening, and recognizing achievements—can significantly improve morale. Employees and employers can make kindness a daily habit with simple gestures that show respect and care. Overall Lesson? Kindness is more than a soft skill; it's a powerful tool for creating a thriving, engaged, and happy workplace. Let’s embrace kindness as a core part of our work culture and unlock the full potential of our teams! ??? #kindnessatwork #workplacewellbeing #employeehappiness #positiveworkculture #leadership #employeewellbeing #teamengagement #workculture #employeewellness #softskills
