The Cuban-American community and all who have been exiled from the horrors of communism mourn the passing of one of our greatest warriors for freedom, the Honorable?Lincoln Rafael Díaz-Balart. A man of unwavering conviction, he dedicated his life to the cause of liberty, standing as an unshakable pillar in our struggle against tyranny.
Larger than life, fearless in battle, and relentless in his pursuit of justice, Congressman Díaz-Balart never wavered in the face of oppression. He carried the torch of his family's legacy, blazing the trail for those who fight for the dignity and rights of the Cuban people and all who yearn to breathe free.
From the halls of the?Florida Legislature?to the corridors of?Congress, he was a steadfast advocate for democracy, a defender of exiles, and a voice for the voiceless. He served with distinction as the?U.S. Representative for Florida's 21st Congressional District?from 1993 to 2011, where he championed policies that strengthened America’s commitment to human rights and the liberation of Cuba. As?Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute, he empowered a new generation of Hispanic leaders, ensuring that the fight for justice and democracy would continue beyond his tenure.
Even after retiring from public office, he remained an unwavering force for good, practicing law and providing strategic counsel from Miami, always working toward the noble cause of a?free Cuba.
