With the year nearly coming to a close, we look back on a busy Q3 with lots of medical issues, cruelty cases, and happy tail adoptions! Nearly a quarter of the dogs we pulled in Q3 had major medical issues. Bitty was diagnosed with severe pneumonia just a few days after we pulled her, and needed 2 days of emergency care including oxygen and then several weeks of recovery. Fawn had severe eye, ear and skin infections, causing him to be nearly blind, along with a leg issue that we believe may be a torn ACL. We had 4 dogs, including Alligator, who were HW+ and needed to receive treatment. And this is only the beginning. We are often asked to pull the difficult dogs. And many have major medical issues that shelters will not or cannot manage. These dogs end up on the euthanasia list, with no hope of survival unless rescues like us save them. These dogs require more care, more fundraising, and longer recovery times before they are able to be adopted. So while we may not save the most, we save the ones that NEED it the most. Rescue in Action - Forsyth County Abuse Case In January of this year, we were asked to step and assist with an abuse and neglect case out of Forsyth County. The conditions were HORRIFIC - the worst the county has ever seen. We saved 10 of the surviving dogs from this deplorable situation. But the work was not done after we rescued them. We hold an unwavering commitment to eradicating bullying against animals, and to the welfare and rehabilitation of those who have been victims of unimaginable suffering. ? In response to the incident in Forsyth County, our dedicated team of volunteers, and partners - veterinarians, trainers & behavioral professionals mobilized to?ensure each rescued dog received the comprehensive care they deserved.???? More than half of the dogs required extensive behavioral training programs to undo the trauma and abuse they suffered. 2 dogs were HW positive and required treatment. 6 people were arrested and charged with more than 20 counts of Cruelty to Animals As of today - 9 of the 10 dogs are in forever homes. Hadley, the last dog, is at a continuing in-home training program, and he’s ready for his forever home! This is the work your giving supports. While we are Braveheart Heroes every day, this week we became Alligator Allies. We saved Alligator after he had been held for almost 500 days at Dekalb / Lifeline as evidence in a criminal cruelty case stemming from March 2023. Alligator is the “other dog” in a horrific case of animal cruelty that made national headlines. When his case was dismissed, he ended up on the euthanasia list due to lack of space. https://lnkd.in/ej3iz3TW Braveheart Bulliez Rescue saved Alligator and took him into rescue.?While he is still on the road to recovery, as we treat his medical issues and provide behavioral training, his much-needed new “leash” on life has already begun! Despite his suffering, Alligator’s spirit remains unbroken, and he now stands at the brink of a new beginning.?We are thrilled to give him that opportunity and be a part of his journey. We’re more than halfway through 2024, and this year has certainly been met with both celebrations and challenges. On the positive side - in Q2 we adopted out 30 dogs to loving homes and families. This is a good sign that people are opening their hearts and homes to rescue dogs, a trend which we hope continues! We worked to rescue dogs with critical medical needs, including Ruby, who was brought over from the Bahamas for lifesaving Heart Worm treatment, which they do not provide there. And Georgia, who was rescued from Fulton County’s euthanasia list due to her deformed foot and leg. She is now happily recovering from amputation with her forever family. One of our biggest challenges in Q2 (and we know we are not alone) was securing committed foster volunteers for our rescue dogs. Fostering is such a key, critical element to what we do, and fosters play a vital role in helping to improve the quality of life for these dogs that have been through such horrific traumas. Over these past few months I’ve been educated on just how bad the need for dog fosters and adopters here in Georgia is! I’ve partnered with Braveheart Bulliez Rescue to help raise awareness and hopefully get some doggies rescued! As long as I’ve been alive I’ve had a dog in the house, and they’ve always been a rescue. There is no better lifelong love and bond like that of an animal you’ve rescued, I cannot recommend it enough! Please share this video to help find dogs like Mara a forever home! ????
