What do the Maine Mariners, Maine Mayhem, Maine Footy, and the Portland Sea Dogs have in common? They’re all part of Evergreen Credit Union’s Keeping Maine Inspired series—and we had a blast bringing their energy to life on screen. More than a highlight reel, this campaign tells the story of Maine’s sports culture and the community that fuels it. See what we put together!

We’re big fans of WordPress. It has the power and flexibility to be almost any kind of website you want; since it’s open source, anyone can install it, modify it, and really make it their own. Over the last two decades, a community has come together to not only contribute directly to the CMS, but also to build their own plugins, themes, and services around it. Which is why the legal issues unfolding between WordPress’s creator, Matt Mullenweg, and WP Engine are… concerning, to say the least. Monday, WP Engine sent a cease-and-desist to Mullenweg’s company, Automattic, after he allegedly threatened a “scorched earth” campaign if they didn’t pay a portion of their revenue to license “WP” and “WordPress.” WP Engine claims when they refused, he took the stage at WordCamp US to call the company a “cancer” on WordPress and encourage users to drop the host, partly because they disable and limit revisions. While we’re not out to defend WP Engine - we have our own qualms with them - and agree with Mullenweg that limiting or disabling core features chips away at the freedom WordPress gives its users, we feel his statements seem unfair (especially considering that?WordPress(dot)com?charges $25 a month just to install themes or plugins.) In our opinion, the assertation that WP Engine is violating trademarks and should pay licensing fees for the usage of “WP” and “WordPress” should make anyone who offers WordPress services a little wary, and demanding a share of their profits under threat of turning users against them feels a little like extortion to us. Mullenweg claims to be trying to protect the ideals of open source software - complete freedom. But, in our opinion, taking a stab at a business because they’re profiting off freely-available software seems antithetical to the very thing he’s claiming to defend. Open source isn’t only free if it’s being used the way you want it to be. What are your thoughts on the Matt Mullenweg vs. WP Engine drama?
