By renaming the boulevard, this project reimagined a major corridor in Richmond, Virginia, as a beacon of inclusivity, education, and cultural reflection. Pinnock is the lead architect on the upcoming Shockoe Project, a comprehensive, experiential destination that places Richmond at the center of the American story by recognizing the history of enslaved and free Africans and people of African descent. Pinnock is also the architect behind William and Mary's Memorial to the Enslaved and is the Co-Founder of Storefront for Community Design in Richmond. VAxDesign Winner Highlight: The Valentine Museum Richmond's Valentine Museum won the Design Achievement Award for the design of their current exhibition: Sculpting History at the Valentine Studio: Art, Power, and the “Lost Cause” American Myth. The exhibition uses evidence to show how Richmond leaders such as Edward Valentine, and other influential Americans reframed the reality of the Civil War. Sculpting History uses artworks sculpted by Edward Valentine as well as documents, objects, images, quotations, and questions to connect the Lost Cause myth to today.
