If your kid is interested in #robotics, there’s more than just math and technology involved. They also have to be good writers so tell your youngster to take each of the English teacher's assignments seriously. One day in professional STEM life they might become the project manager responsible for writing proposals, progress reports during a big project or final summaries when projects are complete. The Soaring Robo Eagles have paired up in teams (8 kids, 4 teams) and are using their imaginations to write character stories for the upcoming #RoboRumble contest in late February. After completing their narratives and learning more coding skills they will program their #SpheroBoltPlus robots to tell the story as a rolling character through the physical course they create. We had the privilege of creating a spark that could ignite a lifetime of curiosity and innovation. In collaboration with the Parks Alliance of Louisville and the support of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) BrainSTEM University hosted a robotics station where students raced robots to clean up ‘trash,’ learning about technology and environmental stewardship in a fun, hands-on way. Afterward, they watched Wall-E, connecting their experience to the power of innovation and protecting our planet. To stay competitive in the global economy, continuous innovation and a highly skilled workforce are essential, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In 2022, the national average wage for STEM jobs was $107,430, nearly double the $58,670 average for non-STEM jobs. STEM jobs are also growing faster, with employment increasing by 19.2% (1.5 million jobs) from May 2007 to May 2018, compared to a 6.6% growth in overall employment. In Kentucky, the number of science and engineering degrees per 1,000 individuals aged 20 to 24 increased from 8.1 in 1997 to 14.8 in 2022. However, this is still lower than competitor states (23.0) and the U.S. average (25.2) in 2022. Over the past 25 years, the U.S. saw a 131% increase in these degrees, competitor states saw a 115% increase, while Kentucky had an 82% increase.
