BIAOH is a statewide advocacy and education organization incorporated in 1982 to improve services and supports to Ohioans with brain injury and their families, to promote prevention and to advocate for advances in research, legislation and program development. In 1985, the IRS granted 501?(3) status to BIAOH, affirming our tax exempt, not-for profit status. BIAOH is comprised of survivors, family members, friends and professionals working together to promote better understanding, rehabilitation opportunities and lifelong community supports to assist an individual in living as fully and independently as possible and to work for prevention of brain injuries throughout the population. The Brain Injury Association of Ohio has been the voice of brain injury for over thirty years in Ohio. It’s been there to answer calls for help, to provide information and support to families and to advocate for public policy initiatives which support injury prevention as well as comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation. MISSION: TO CREATE A BETTER FUTURE THROUGH BRAIN INJURY PREVENTION, RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY VISION: A world where all preventable brain injuries are prevented, all unpreventable brain injuries are minimized, and all individuals who have experienced brain injury maximize their quality of life. VALUES: Our values and conduct center on principles related to a deep appreciation for: - Individual dignity and worth - Self-determination - Inclusion and Community Support - Collaboration and solidarity - Excellence and integrity Core services and supports: BIAOH is the “go-to” place for information and referral for TBI survivors, family members, health and education professionals and the general public on matters related to brain injury across the board. For families facing the life changes that a TBI brings, BIAOH is a source of help, hope and healing as they continue to cope with challenges.

Did you know that Intimate Partner Violence is linked to Brain Injury? Studies indicate that a significant portion of individuals who experience domestic violence also suffer from traumatic brain injury (TBI). According to research published in the journal JAMA, up to 92% of survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) report experiencing at least one traumatic brain injury during the course of their abuse. Recently one of our community partners, Rachel Ramirez at Ohio Domestic Violence Network sat down with Brian Murphy on his podcast Murph's Talk to share about the connection.
