Though few of us would care to admit it, the truth is that we can all be a bit judgy when it comes to people's accents and how they speak. Whether it's the casual drop of a "t" (think "bu'er" instead of "butter"), saying"baff" instead of "barth", or "toon" instead of "town",?the biases that exist around accent and perceptions of competence are still largely ignored, despite their impact on recruitment decisions. On 26 September we'll be sitting down with Serena C., Gemma Johnson and Scott Morrison as we unpack how accents and perceived class background influence hiring decisions, and gain practical strategies to foster a more inclusive and equitable recruitment process.?Register via the link below to join us: ???? https://lnkd.in/e7yDCnVJ

Inclusive recruitment training for arts and culture organisations who do their own hiring
关于我们
We’d love to tell you that Brabble was sparked by some awe-inspiring, Isaac-Newton-under-an-apple-tree epiphany type moment. But to do that, would be to start our relationship with a lie. The truth is, we were bored. Seriously bored. Ennuied. Fed up. Benumbed, even. Bored of all the conferences, news articles, steering groups and insights reports talking about diversity and inclusion without actually making any meaningful progress. You know that feeling you get that makes you want to throw your remote control through the telly when your football team are playing like they’ve never seen a ball? Or the fist-clenching, clothe-rending, itchy exasperation you feel when you’re standing in a really long queue at the supermarket and you see three members of staff having a banter instead of opening up another till? Yeah, that’s how we feel when we hear people talk about diversity and inclusion in the creative sectors. Don’t get us wrong – we love getting stuck into a juicy research paper and having a natter around a table for some off the wall thinking. But there comes a point where we need to put the data down, stop talking and take action. And we’re well past that point. We know that equity and inclusion is more than just a recruitment issue. But we also know that we can’t expect anyone to have a seat at the table if they can’t get their foot in the door. (Plus, recruitment is where most of the monsters surrounding inclusion tend to rear their gnarly heads). When it comes down to it, we’re a simple bunch of people with a simple mission: to end all conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion in the creative sectors. Forever. Done. Dusted. (That, and to make ourselves less bored.) That’s why we started Brabble - the conversation to end all conversations. Are you in?
