From its beginnings in 1860, Boys & Girls Clubs of America has been shaped by visionary women; Elizabeth Hammersley, Louisa Bushnell, and sisters Mary and Alice Goodwin saw the need for a safe, supportive space for young people. Their mission sparked a movement that continues to empower kids nationwide. Here in Wooster, we proudly carry on their legacy by providing a place where local youth can learn, grow, and thrive. The Boys & Girls Club of Wooster is excited to announce that it has selected Jeffrey Musselman as the recipient of this year’s Founder’s Award. Each year BGCW’s board is tasked with choosing a community member to receive the award in honor of its founders John Moritz, Chuck Cooper, Jim Robertson and Mike Mann. The Board of Directors chose to recognize Musselman for his many years of dedication to the Club and his support to the organization since he joined the board in 2017. He finished out his term on the board in 2022 and has remained active in his support and involvement with the youth in the Wooster community. Musselman is a lifelong Wayne County resident,? graduated from Waynedale High School before attending the College of Wooster, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.? He also spent a year abroad studying at Glasgow University in Scotland.? After receiving his undergraduate degree, Musselman obtained a master’s degree in political science from The Ohio State University, and earned his Juris Doctorate law degree from the University of Akron School of Law. ? He is currently a partner with Taggart Law Firm in Wooster.? He is married to Tami Musselman and has one son, Stirling. With a long time interest in helping the youth of Wooster, Musselman received the 2004 “Friends of Young Children Award” before coming onto the BGCW board, where he later served as President during a transformative period in the Club’s history. ? Through his activities in the Wayne County Historical Society, Musselman, also a former President there, was appointed co-chairman of the 2008 Wooster Bicentennial Committee. For his service, he received that year a key to the city of Wooster from the mayor, as well as the Wayne County Historical Society’s George J. Schwartz Distinguished Service Award. In 2012 he received the Society’s Alvin Rich Lifetime Achievement Award. ? ? He remains actively involved in youth activities as well as local history, and in the past year assisted Main Street Wooster with their Civil Rights walking tour. This past weekend this group of amazing champions of youth gave up their Saturday to come together for our annual Board Retreat to set goals and map out 2025. This board is super passionate about our Club kids — They work hard to give our Wooster kids the opportunity to have a bright future. We have nothing but gratitude for our board members’ knowledge, expertise and perspective as we continue to build on one of Wooster’s most valuable resources for our youth. #woosterohio #greatfuturesstarthere #strategicplanning
