BGCD Takes on the Big Hoopla STEM Challenge! Over the weekend, Club members had an incredible experience at the Hoopla STEM Challenge hosted by Wright State University! This exciting event combined the energy of college basketball with the power of STEM education, giving young people the opportunity to engage in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Through interactive STEM demonstrations, youth explored new concepts, sparked their curiosity, and gained a deeper appreciation for innovation and problem-solving. At BGCD, we believe that STEM education and exploration is key to preparing youth for success in a 21st-century workforce. By fostering technical skills, critical thinking, and creativity, we’re equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world. We're thrilled to announce our 2025 Youth of the Year and recipient of The Jack & Vicki Giambrone Scholarship, Ke'mya L! Ke'mya's dedication to leadership, passion for academics, and commitment to community service have earned her this prestigious honor. As our Youth of the Year, she will represent BGCD at the State Youth of the Year Competition in Columbus this April! In addition to Ke'mya, six incredible candidates shared with community leaders and elected officials how the Club has shaped their lives and the issues that matter most to them. With the support of a professional mentor, each candidate wrote essays and prepared a speech for the competition. Our teens spoke passionately about issues such as poverty, access to opportunity, kindness, mental health, and more. Thanks to a generous sponsorship, BGCD was able to award scholarships of $5,000, $2,500, and $500, investing in the futures of our young leaders. Many thanks to our judges and mentors for guiding and uplifting our inspiring young people. The future is bright in Dayton!

Meet our 2025 Youth of the Year candidates! The Youth of the Year program honors outstanding Club members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dayton, recognizing their achievements in academics, leadership, dedication, and perseverance. On Thursday, February 27, we will celebrate the incredible teens who took part in this year's Youth of the Year competition. Seven of our finalists will share their inspiring stories, and by the end of the evening, ONE will be crowned the 2025 Youth of the Year!

Each participant selected professional attire to help them feel confident and empowered as they prepare to share their stories and showcase their leadership at the Club and in the community. The Boys & Girls Club of Dayton’s annual holiday party was truly magical for our youth and teens! The joy and excitement on our members’ faces were heartwarming, as over 150 Club members received multiple gifts, gift cards, coats, hats, gloves, shoes, personal care items, and more—thanks to the incredible generosity of the Dayton community! A HUGE thank you to the following organizations for helping make this holiday unforgettable for our members and their families: -?The?Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority & ATU,?CareSource, and?altafiber?for collecting toys and gifts. - Century Hotel Group for adopting BGCD families for Christmas. -?Jack and Jill of America, Inc. - Dayton Chapter?and?Bigger Than Sneakers, Inc. for ensuring each Club member received a winter coat, hat, gloves, and socks. - And to the numerous Club champions who provided toys, gift cards, or experiences for our members this holiday season. A special thanks as well to our Board of Directors, community members, and volunteers for donating your time to make this experience possible for our youth and for bringing the spirit of the holidays to our Club family. Over the weekend, Club members had the opportunity to experience The Nutcracker thanks to a generous gift from Dayton Children's Hospital! For all but a few of our youth and teens, this was their first time at the theatre, and it was truly special to see their excitement and wonder throughout the performance. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to share this experience with our members. This undoubtedly opened their minds, eyes, and hearts to the endless possibilities their futures hold.
