This past Friday, we celebrated the 35th anniversary of our Cypress Branch Auxiliary at a luncheon honoring their long history of supporting Boys & Girls Aid. The event featured inspiring speeches from our past two CEOs, Dr. Suzan Huntington and Mike Balter, as well as an engaging look back at the auxiliary’s long history of advocacy for the youth in our programs. Founded in 1990 by 17 purposeful women, Cypress Branch Auxiliary has raised more than one million dollars for Boys & Girls Aid throughout the years, and now boasts a membership of 70. In addition to their fundraising efforts, the auxiliary provides critical material donations to support the youth in our programs, including sports bags, holiday gifts, and items for our shelter and housing program’s food pantry. Cypress Branch Auxiliary is an invaluable piece of our agency's past, present, and future; we can't thank them enough for their continued support of our mission!

As part of our ongoing celebration of National Adoption Month, we’re excited to share Mateo’s adoption story—a powerful testament to the transformative work of Boys & Girls Aid’s Permanency Team. After being thrust into the foster care system at the age of two and moving through 17 different homes over the span of eight years, Mateo has finally found his forever family. Thanks to the dedication of his permanency specialist, Kate, Mateo’s former teacher, Theresa, will be adopting him by the end of this year, giving him the stability and love he truly deserves. The youth at our Safe Place shelter in Hillsboro had a dill-lightful time learning the art of pickling vegetables with board member and local artisan Anna Held. Participants gained hands-on experience with each step of the process, from crafting the brine to customizing flavors to suit their own taste. This marks the first of many exciting collaborations with Anna at Safe Place, as she plans to host future workshops on making body butters and homemade jams. We’re always eager to welcome volunteers who want to share their skills and passions with the youth in our programs.
