A strike could bring NJ's railways to a halt, if NJ Transit and rail workers don’t reach an agreement by March 22nd. Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers voted unanimously to strike back in August 2023. Since then, two Presidential Emergency Boards (PEBs) have delayed a strike. The second PEB triggered a 60-day cooling off period, ending March 22nd. With no further federal intervention possible, a strike could begin in just two weeks. Boxcar Congestion Pricing Update: What’s happening now and what happens next? As we learn more, we’ll keep you informed, and in the meantime, our focus will continue to be making Boxcar the best commute possible.

NJ Transit strike could begin as soon as 23 days from now. Our first priority is serving existing Boxcar customers, so THURSDAY AT NOON we are going to modify membership to give booking preference to our existing customers. Our second priority, after protecting existing Boxcar member interests, is going to be helping new commuters in the event of a strike. We are not a huge company so we will be limited in what we can do, but we will be sharing more details on that coming soon.

In anticipation of a potential NJ Transit strike, Boxcar is taking steps to ensure that our existing customers are prioritized and rewarded for their prior Boxcar support. Some changes to our memberships will take place on Thursday at 5pm.
