On Friday, public officials broke ground on a $20 million renovation of a blighted property in the City of Middletown, Ohio. Our client Patriot Engineering and Environmental, Inc. is working to remediate brownfield sites across the state, thanks in large part to funding from the Ohio Department of Development. These projects create jobs and invoke pride in communities, as former eyesores come to life. This particular property will host a new, state of the art facility for Ei Ceramics LLC, who will generate an estimate $4 million in annual payroll. Recently, Andy Bowers and I teamed up with Emil Barr to build a virtual learning company, Flashpass. Through partnerships with employers, colleges, schools, non-profits, trade associations, and career tech centers, we are delivering high quality, on-demand, workforce training modules to Ohioans. Our programs are available free of charge thanks to funding through the Ohio Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation. We are on track to meet our goal of upskilling over 1,000 Ohio workers this year! What am I most proud of in my career? When I started a lobbying and government relations firm in 2023, I wanted to leverage my relationships in government to create positive impact in Ohio. So much of the work we do at Bowers Hinman Capitol Affairs accomplishes that goal, but few clients are as mission driven as The Two Foundation . The Two Foundation is a non-profit organization in my hometown, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. The foundation provides workforce training and support for individuals with cognitive exceptionalities. After meeting Shari Hunter and her son Derek, I decided to take on the organization as a pro bono client. I was in my first few months of business - working for free was a questionable decision - but Shari’s passion for creating inclusive work environments for people of all abilities resonated with me. I told Shari that there was significant opportunity to gain state funding for their planned expansion in upcoming legislation. However, I warned her that a lot of interests compete for these limited funds. If anything, we weren’t likely to get more than $100,000 for the project. Over the next six months, we brought groups of elected officials to The Two Café to talk about their mission. Finally, our work paid off. This year, Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed legislation appropriating $2 million to the Two Foundation for a brand new facility! As of last week, the new building is open and allowing the organization to serve more individuals than ever before. A huge thanks to Senator Matt Dolan, Senator Jerry Cirino, Representative Steve Demetriou, Representative Bride Rose Sweeney, Representative Nick Santucci, Representative Jay Edwards, and Representative Phillip M. Robinson, Jr. !!!

$4.575 million! Our clients received a windfall of funding from the State Capital Budget and One Time Strategic Community Investment Fund. This legislation was signed into law last week after months of deliberation. The State Capital Budget is a biennial process in which the legislature funds certain community and infrastructure projects. Non-profits and governmental entities are eligible to receive funds.
