Dispelling Depression Myths October is National Depression & Mental Health Screening Month Five percent of the global adult population experiences depression, which involves a persistent depressed mood, sadness, or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time. Depression is different from regular mood changes and feelings about everyday life. It can affect all aspects of life, including relationships with family, friends and community. New Grant Approved for Expanded Palliative Care Program at BCH Navigating the complexities of end-of-life care can be overwhelming for patients, families, and care teams. The National Institutes of Health reports that, in the U.S., more than 10% of health care spending occurs in the last six months of life, and about a third of all deaths happen in hospitals. At Boulder Community Health, we recognize the need to address these challenges head-on by expanding our palliative care services and recently approved a grant to support this care team. It's PA week! Meet Jamie Canino, an Emergency Medicine PA at Boulder Community Health. With over 15 years in Emergency Medicine and nearly 19 years as a PA, Jamie brings extensive experience and compassion to her patients. Active on the Professional Practice Review Committee and the APP Steering Committee, she ensures every visit to the ED is informative and comfortable while providing top-notch care. Jamie is also passionate about longevity principles to enhance health span and enjoys serving as a medic for Colorado cycling and triathlon events.
