Boston MedFlight (BMF) is a nonprofit, CAMTS accredited, Critical Care Transport service. Boston MedFlight commits to excellence in critical care transport by providing the highest quality regional critical care transport system. For more than 35 years, Boston MedFlight has played an integral role as part of the Massachusetts EMS system and the community hospitals of New England. Boston MedFight transports emergent patients regardless of their ability to pay. We receive no state or federal funding and as a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization we must rely on third party reimbursement, support from our consortium hospitals, and our fundraising efforts to cover the substantial costs associated with delivering our services. Our consortium hospitals include: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital,Tufts Medical Center and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.

The 2024 Dr. James Dargin Memorial Critical Care Conference Register for our conference online at: https://lnkd.in/ewNEXYze Conference speaker spotlight: Michael Frakes APRN, FCCM, FAEN, FACHE Topic: Mr. Frakes will be offering up 4 choices for his presentation for the audience to select. Michael Frakes is the Chief Quality Officer and the Vice President of Clinical Services for Boston MedFlight. A Nebraska native, he began his EMS career in Kansas, completing an AAS degree in Emergency Medical Services from the Johnson County (KS) Community College, the diploma for which still hangs on his office wall. Michael’s transport and medical experience includes positions as an EMT, Paramedic, Flight Communications Specialist, ED and ICU nurse, and transport nurse. He is a past-President of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association and an editor of the Principles and Practice of Transport Medicine textbook. Michael also has a degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Kansas, the home of college basketball, and is a Certified Barbeque Judge. The 2024 Dr. James Dargin Memorial Critical Care Conference Register for our conference online at: https://lnkd.in/ewNEXYze Conference speaker spotlight: K Sophia Dyer, MD Topic: TikTok Challenges Seen in the ED Dr. Sophia Dyer is a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, MD, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, BS, and received a Certificate in Environmental Management from the Tufts University School of Engineering. Dr. Dyer is Board certified in Emergency Medicine. She has been with Boston EMS since 1999. She served as Assistant Medical Director and Associate Medical Director before being named the city’s first female Medical Director in March 2009. She has also been the recipient of many awards, including the EMS Physician of the Year Award, Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Service Council, 2003; the Frommer Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine, Boston City Hospital, June 1997; and the Award for Excellence in Academic Emergency Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine, May 1993. Additionally, Dr. Dyer has authored more than 30 medical publications. She is currently Associate Medical Director at Boston MedFlight and Professor, Dept. of Emergency Medicine Boston University School of Medicine. The 2024 Dr. James Dargin Memorial Critical Care Conference Conference speaker spotlight: Christina Martinka MBE, FP-C, CCP-C, CCEMT-P, PNCCT, NR-P, NR-EMT Topic: Expert Testimony Christina Martinka is a Board-Certified Critical Care Flight and Ground Paramedic, Biologist, and Bioethicist. She serves as Chief Executive Officer at Air Medical Experts, LLC, and is a Managing Partner at Cambridge Ethics Consultants in Boston. With over a decade of rotor-wing flight experience, Christina has executed hundreds of critical care transport missions for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. She has been decorated for valor and clinical excellence and has received recognition and awards for her contributions to community service and international humanitarian relief. Christina is a Subject Matter Expert in Prehospital Difficult Airway management and a court-admissible Expert Witness. She also serves as an Instructor and Medical Advisor for the Department of Defense – Naval Special Warfare Group and the Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. As an accomplished author and international lecturer, she speaks extensively on EMS and Critical Care topics. In addition, Christina is a Faculty Instructor at Harvard Medical School, where she works with graduate students and collaborates on Health, Law, and Policy under the tutelage of Dr. Kesselheim, Dr. Abel, and her mentor Dr. Berry. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University. Her EMS career began in Arizona, where she worked as both a high-volume 911 system paramedic and a rural paramedic, notably serving as the sole on-duty ALS provider for a 432-square-mile AOR.
