Equip first generation youth to gain access to higher education, break the cycle of poverty and become agents of change.
关于我们
The Boston Higher Education Resource Center (HERC) serves under-represented students in grades 9-12 and their families. It does so through in-school and out-of-school academic enrichment, career advising, and academic support and retention services to help them graduate from high school and college. HERC awakens vision and purpose in the lives of the participants. HERC equips and empowers them to achieve their vision, to realize their potential and to transform their lives and communities. We believe every student in our city has unique gifts, talents, and passions. Students are capable of achieving what they set their minds too. Yet far too often, students of color with low-incomes have not had the same opportunities as their higher income peers. We’re on a mission to change that by connecting first-generation-to-college high school students with the resources, connections, and tools they need to get in and stick through college.

We are so excited to highlight this article from The Boston Globe featuring dania vazquez, Head of School of Margarita Mu?iz Academy! We have always been impressed by her extraordinary leadership. She fosters a positive and supportive culture which has shined through every student that crosses her path. Care packages are heading out to our first-generation students who are preparing for college finals! Thank you to all of our community, philanthropic partner, and student volunteers for purchasing all of the items on our wishlist and preparing the packages last night. We especially want to thank BT Boston, who made an extra push amongst their team to get our wish list completed and also sent volunteers last night. We first got to know Barnes and Thornburg when we received their Racial and Social Justice grant last year and are so grateful for the continued partnership and support from their whole staff team.

Last week, the Carnegie Corporation of New York announced that the Latine College & Career Access (LaCCA) Network has been named as one of 10 winners of the Corporation’s new initiative, Profiles in Collective Leadership, focused on funding nonpartisan collaborations serving as educational and economic bridges in communities across the country. As the only recipient of this $200,000 grant in Massachusetts, this recognition is a testament to the effectiveness of LaCCA's model and its potential to make a significant impact on the lives of Latine and BIPOC youth in Boston. When we founded the LaCCA Network alongside our partners from the Greater Boston Latino Network— IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, Ebecc East Boston, Hyde Square Task Force and Sociedad Latina—we wanted to empower Latine and BIPOC youth in Boston by providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in education and their careers. Today, LaCCA serves approximately 250 students between the ages of 14 and 21 every year with 100 percent of participating youth achieving on-time grade promotion and being on track for high school graduation. Carolina De Jesus, our CEO, shared, "We are so grateful for this recognition and support of our work with the LaCCA network. We look forward to this collaboration to increase our collective impact amongst our first-generation to college students." To learn more visit: https://lnkd.in/e77_5d55
