Our dear turtle friends, Frida and Georgia, will be retiring this month and returning home to Rainforest Reptiles.?? The turtles have delighted and captivated Museum visitors and staff for over six years!?? Whether making an appearance for Creature Features, or capturing the attention of visitors from one of the many viewing areas of our tank, they are the source of many questions, exclamations, and moments of wonder. We care greatly for the well-being of Frida and Georgia and are happy that they will be returning to quiet space for their next chapter. Join us in wishing our friends a happy retirement!

On March 14, President Trump issued an Executive Order that would gut the only federal agency dedicated to supporting American museums, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). For decades, IMLS has supported Boston Children’s Museum and museums and libraries across all 50 states.? ? IMLS funds have supported many new Boston Children’s Museum exhibits, including PlaySpace, Countdown to Kindergarten and You, Me, We, the Museum’s School Readiness initiatives, and essential community programs and resources supporting early childhood education across the globe. All together, the Museum has received over five million dollars of funding from IMLS since 1989, funds that have leveraged millions more through matching grants, and have benefited generations of children and families. ? IMLS makes up only 0.0046% of the overall federal budget to support, while museums, in turn, generate $50 billion dollars in economic benefits to the American economy and support more than 726,000 jobs. American museums receive bi-partisan support, and research shows that 96% of Americans want to maintain or increase federal funding for museums. ? We are asking you to take a few minutes to email and call your members of Congress today to ask them to speak up to the Administration about the importance of IMLS: https://lnkd.in/e8RaueEY It is important that you personalize the template email with your personal story about the impact museums have had on you and your family.? ? You can learn more about the recent Executive Order and facts about museums’ impact on American communities on the American Alliance of Museums website: https://lnkd.in/drtYsme
