关于我们
Founded in 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is the only comprehensive rape crisis center in the Greater Boston area and the oldest and largest in New England. Our mission is to end sexual violence through healing and social change. BARCC provides free, confidential support and services to survivors of sexual violence ages 12 and up and their families and friends. We work with survivors of all genders, from the immediate crisis after to years and decades later. Our goal is to empower survivors to heal and seek justice in ways that are meaningful to them. We meet the needs of survivors in crisis and long after, and we assist survivors as they navigate the health-care, criminal justice, social service, and school systems. We take the knowledge we learn from survivors and current research out into the community. We work with a wide range of schools, campuses, community groups, and organizations. These include middle and high schools, colleges, police, health-care providers, businesses, and more. We advocate for change and work with them to help them make their environments safe and prevent sexual violence. We do this by offering training, on topics such as how to respond to survivor's disclosures. We provide concrete tools and technical assistance to help create policies and practices that prevent sexual violence. Our response and prevention programs are based on research and more than 45 years of direct service experience. We are frequently asked to provide expert testimony about potential policy and legislative solutions to preventing and responding to sexual violence. We also provide expert commentary in the media on these issues. BARCC assists thousands of survivors, their loved ones, and communities each year, regardless of sex, gender identity, race, physical/developmental disabilities, income, ethnicity, class, religion, or sexual orientation. We provide services in English and Spanish, as well as other languages upon request.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day for remembrance and reflection, is this upcoming Monday. This day honors the life and legacy of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his impactful work. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This year, Inauguration Day falls on the same Monday. When thinking about the next four years, many people have fear and anxieties. It’s incredibly important that we stand by and live the principles that MLK Jr. emphasized in his work. We must focus on equality, nonviolence, justice, and human connection. BARCC offices in Cambridge, Waltham, and at Casa Myrna will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a community in support of peace and stand against injustice. If you need support, you can always call our 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371 or send us a chat at barcc.org/chat from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

We have been made aware of scam communications being sent to members of the BARCC community. These emails and texts are claiming to be from a BARCC staff member and asking for personal information. The Healey-Driscoll Administration has awarded nearly $3.8 million in state and federal funding to support organizations working to end intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking. “This grant funding reaffirms our deep commitment to ensuring a future where every individual can live with dignity, respect, and without fear of abuse,” said Governor Maura Healey. The VAWA Grant Program funds the statewide Access to Forensic Information (AFI) program that is housed under BARCC. The AFI program supports survivors with questions after their Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (SAECK) and helps survivors navigate post toxicology testing, and unreported toxicology results. Thank you Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll for putting survivors first. For more information on AFI, please visit www.surviverape.org. #mapoli

Happy Thanksgiving! Today, as we reflect on what we’re grateful for, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible people at Project Paulie and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Project Paulie donated 20 full Thanksgiving meals (turkeys included!) so our housing and food insecure clients could have a delicious home cooked dinner tonight. Newton-Wellesley Hospital donated the funds needed for transportation, so clients could pick up their meals from our Cambridge office. We are truly thankful for their kindness and support! We know that the holiday season can be especially difficult for survivors. From navigating family gatherings to managing the financial strain of groceries and gifts, this time of year often brings added stress. Thanks to Project Paulie and Newton-Wellesley Hospital, we’ve been able to help ease some of that burden and make the season a little brighter. Just a reminder, BARCC offices will be closed today, November 28, and November 29 for Thanksgiving. If you need support, you can always call our 24-hour hotline at 800-841-8371 or send us a chat at barcc.org/chat from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
