This fact from McKinsey & Company's 10th anniversary report on women in the workplace is appalling, to say the least. Women make up 50% of the US population, so why should it take us almost half a century to see that reflected in our careers? When looking for ways to help companies adjust their hiring practices and take on new commitments to diversity equity, McKinsey & Company had this to say: Companies should, " look at five core practices for debiasing—developing clear evaluation criteria for hiring, before candidates are considered; offering bias training for hiring evaluators; aspiring to have diverse slates of similarly qualified candidates for open positions; developing clear evaluation criteria for performance reviews; and sending reminders to avoid bias during reviews" When companies adopted ALL of these practices, the report found that those companies, "tend to make the greatest strides in advancing women." In order to advance, we have to be willing to look inward at our own practices and structures to evaluate and improve upon them so that we may see progress towards true parity. Last Saturday, Boss Me In and Raise The Barr joined together for the BMI Boundless Women Speaker Series. Panelists discussed how they balance motherhood with their corporate leadership roles, how self-care looks different for each individual, and the adverse effects of putting work before family commitments. Describing the success of the event, BMI Founder Mai Moore ?? shared, “What we created, experienced, and executed this past weekend was extraordinary. We were inspired by diverse executive women, all with experiences of raising children while climbing the corporate ladder. Many made sacrifices just to be in the event, but they chose to show up in full power to support Boss Me In, Raise The Barr, and the Raise The Barr scholars … to help inspire, support, and empower. We changed the world, together.” These events are so impactful and inspiring for our community of single parents! We’re so thankful to everybody involved especially Sears Imported Autos for hosting all 50+ attendees!

This past weekend, Boss Me In and Raise The Barr founded by NFL Player Anthony Barr showed up like never before in Minneapolis to huddle around RTB’s scholars in dynamic ways. ??First, the incredible lori barr opened the weekend with a private dinner event and then shared her story as the kick-off to the main event at Sears Imported Autos, Inc. the next morning. ??Stand in your purpose ??Women are strong and scholars are important ??We need to support those doing the work ???Next, our fearless leader Mai Moore ?? got incredibly vulnerable in her true authentic way sharing parts of her life as a single mother in which we did not know would catapult multiple actions afterwards. ??No one is better than another ??Hope is not lost ??You never know when standing in your power what what may come of it ????♀?????♀???♀?????♀? Then, the joyful and excellent ?? Natasha (Tash) Durkins led the BMI Boundless Women Speaker Series with the phenomenal speakers: Michelle Pecak, Loren Rosario - Maldonado, PCC & Laura Theodore. ??How the Future of Work needs to adjust for those who are single parents ??Childcare is outrageous in cost and a hurdle when working ?? How putting work before family can be detrimental ??Being a single parent has positives and many transferable skills to the workplace ie resilliency, incredible problem solving skills, time management, resourcefulness and adaptability ??Self-care is vital and comes in many forms and is unique to the individual ??Cultural intelligence is vital for the workplace and in community ?? Is imposter syndrome real? ??Women empowering women is key ??Then the finale! Mai Moore along with Lori Barr, Colby Owens, and 10 Chiefs from Chief were Coaches in which they led a Boss It Up Integrated Workshop and the power of community, action and support was demonstrated. Each scholar was lifted up, raised their voice by sharing their ask and the community responded (multiple times for each scholar). Everyone inclusively at the event got involved, intergenerationally! ????????People left inspired, healed, in awe of the action, giving their support all to help create a better world. We thank each of the 50+ persons who attended, who showed up and whom came together to help empower. We changed the world, together this past weekend.
