关于我们

Over the past century, Highland Park's large farm and estate lands have been parceled into smaller suburban residential plots. Watson Whittlesey's Livingston Manor development, begun in 1906, is perhaps the best known example. There have been many other tract developments such as the Viehmann Tract, also on the north side, Riverview Terrace on the south side, Raritan Park Terrace in the triangle between Raritan and Woodbridge Avenues, and East New Brunswick Heights in the Orchard Heights neighborhood. By 1930, most of Highland Park's land had been sub-divided and its streets mapped out. It has taken years of continuously constructing houses and apartment buildings to create our largely residential borough. Highland Park's industrial development in the 19th and 20th centuries has included such businesses as Johnson & Johnson, The John Waldron Machine Company, and the Janeway & Carpenter Wall-paper factory. Our commercial zones along both Raritan and Woodbridge Avenues have been filled with many small family businesses, some which have lasted for generations. Throughout the 20th century, Highland Park's religious institutions, educational facilities, and municipal governance have kept pace with the growth of the town. The trends of local autonomy and control that shaped Highland Park in the past continue to this day.

  • Mayor Elsie Foster, Council President Matthew Hersh, and Councilwoman Stephany Kim Chohan were pleased to formally welcome MeeTu to Highland Park’s business community, with a ribbon cutting yesterday afternoon. The store is located at 114 Raritan Ave, near South 1st Ave. As MeeTu describes itself in store promotional literature: "MeeTu is where aesthetics intertwine with meaning. Specializing in unique floral design and exquisite tea blends, MeeTu crafts a tangible sense of stylist daily life. Embrace a relaxed state of being and discover the refreshing allure of MeeTu.” Borough of Highland Park

  • We are still soaking in all the positive comments and the delightful Facebook posts about yesterday’s Highland Park Public Library grand reopening. The reimagined building is very welcoming and the community is clearly charmed to have their library back in full operation. Thank you to the library staff as well as the many other partners and stakeholders who helped bring Highland Park this inspired recreation of an institution we treasure.

  • The Borough had a ribbon cutting to formally celebrate the renovation and reopening of the Felton Ave Tot Lot. We were honored that the Director of the Middlesex County Commissioners, Ronald Rios, participated in the event. Mayor Elsie Foster noted in her remarks that the renovation was supported by two sources of funding - the Borough’s Capital Improvement Fund and the Middlesex County Open Space and Recreation Fund. She expressed the Borough’s appreciation to Middlesex County for support of this project. The Mayor thanked Council President Matthew Hersh for his strong advocacy on behalf of this project. She also thanked Borough Administrator Teri Jover, DPW Superintendent Mike Wieczorkiewicz, and Code Enforcement Director Scott Brescher for overseeing this project through completion.

  • "We take pedestrian and bicyclist safety very seriously in our town and we are proud to have a very active Safe Walking and Cycling Committee that works with us on addressing the challenges we face in this area,” Mayor Elsie Foster said. “This federal allocation will go a very long way in making some of our busiest streets safer and more accessible for a variety of uses.”
