As we think about what we consume over the holidays, it may be wise to think about the degree of pre-processing as well as the calorie count.

Obesity begins to fall in the US. Interesting post by John Burn-Murdoch showing how the proportion of obese Americans peaked in the early 2020's. This reversal of a long secular trend raises a host of questions. What could be the drivers? Culture, demographics, economics? The downward trend could continue with the broad adoption of GLP-1s. Twenty percent of the patients in my GP's practice are on them. Borna Health will need to tweak its investor presentation as obesity is linked with a host of medical issues. But it is no-longer a growing trend (in the US at least.)

Artificial Intelligence in healthcare can make an enormous impact. For difficult and perplexing cases, clinicians have too little time and a vast array of diagnostic tools that provide avalanches of data, so the technology can sift through it to shorten the time to a correct diagnosis. McKinsey conducted some interesting work confirming that inclusion or exclusion does impact the stock price on a temporary basis. I also believe that belonging to the index and the growth of passive index funds exaggerates the price response to events in the mega caps.
