    CPFR: A Vision Ahead of Its Time. When CPFR (Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment) was introduced in the late 90s, it was a bold new way for suppliers and retailers to work together. It promised better alignment, fewer stockouts, and stronger partnerships. But this version of CPFR wasn’t simple. It was complex, time-intensive, and often frustrating. So why does it still matter today? Because those challenges helped shape how we think about collaboration in our customer supply chain today. ?? What Made Early CPFR So Complex? 1?? Manual Workflows: Teams relied on paper (and then spreadsheets), emails, and long meetings to align on plans. Updating forecasts or resolving issues could take weeks, making the process slow and cumbersome. 2?? Competing Priorities: Suppliers and retailers often approached the table with different goals. Finding alignment wasn’t just about sharing data—it meant rethinking how to work together. 3?? Data Without Clarity: CPFR introduced a level of data sharing that was new for many. But without the tools to make sense of that data, it often created more questions than answers. ?? What We’ve Learned From Those Early Days: 1?? Collaboration Is Hard, but Necessary: CPFR taught us that meaningful supply chain collaboration requires effort. It’s not about technology alone—it’s about building trust and aligning on shared business outcomes. 2?? Processes Need to Be Clear and Scalable: The early days of CPFR showed us that complexity can hinder progress. Simplifying and standardizing processes is essential for teams to collaborate more effectively and drive better results. 3?? It Was a Framework, Not a Fix: CPFR was never—and still isn’t—a one-size-fits-all solution. It laid the groundwork for a structured, flexible approach to supply chain collaboration. That approach remains essential for success in today’s complex customer supply chain. ?? Why It Matters Now: The customer supply chain challenges we face today—consumer demand volatility, inventory constraints, and constant disruptions—are the same issues CPFR set out to solve years ago. Many believe CPFR wasn’t effective, but the truth is, it wasn’t that it didn’t work—it was simply ahead of its time. Its principles remain as relevant as ever today. And now, its moment has truly arrived. __ #CPFR #OSA #Supplychain
