Getting to attend family events like parent-teacher conferences is always special for us, because reading as a family is a big part of helping children become life long readers. Today at Agnes E. Little in Pawtucket, we loved seeing students and their grownups picking out books, eager to bring them home and start reading together. With books available for all ages — from students to their younger and older siblings — there was something for every one! Your support makes programs like this possible. Hi Books Are Wings community! It’s Ali, Books Are Wings Program & Outreach Manager, back with another weekly update! Today, we visited Nathanael Greene in Pawtucket, one of our long-time partner schools for a Books All Year program. I had a blast sharing “My Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World” by Malcolm Mitchell — a heartwarming story about the challenge of finding the right book. And, fittingly, it’s become one of my favorite books in the whole wide world! ???? After the story, students had the chance to explore a large selection of donated books to find the perfect ones for themselves, to build their home libraries. We know that book choice is critical to fostering a love of reading. We also believe that children should have access to books that are historically accurate and reflective of our culturally diverse world. At Books Are Wings, we partner with schools, communities and families to make sure that young people have books that inspire and excite them to take ownership of their learning and opportunities for the future. Hi everyone, It’s Ali, Program & Outreach Manager at Books Are Wings, back with another update! Today, we had a fantastic visit to Orlo Avenue Elementary where our amazing team of volunteers helped with story time and book selection, where each student took home 2 books from our program. It was "Character Day" during the school's reading week, so we got to see students and teachers dressed as their favorite book characters, which was such a fun way to celebrate reading! Kindergarten through third graders enjoyed stories from our staff and volunteers, and the entire school got a chance to build their home libraries too with free books from our team.

Our community continues to support our work in so many profound ways, and we're so excited to get books from the drive back out into the hands of young readers through our programs. Hi, Books Are Wings community! It’s Ali, BAW Program & Outreach Manager, back with a weekly update. I always love visiting Henry J. Winters Elementary for our school-based programs. With our long-standing partnership, the teachers and students have become such friendly, familiar faces. We're able to work together to support young readers - helping them improve their literacy schools inside the classroom and at home. Today’s book party was a celebration of this partnership! Many classes had a guest reader who read aloud and then every student picked two books to take home. It was wonderful to see students not only excited to choose their books but also sharing the experience with their classmates! #childrensbooks #childrensliteracy #books #raisingreaders #rhodeisland #rhody #ri #pawtucket
