Founded in 1963, the San Diego Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA San Diego) is the largest local professional association devoted exclusively to the commercial real estate industry. Meet Michele Ignacio, a Southeast San Diego native known for her dedication to her community and professional growth. Michele is an invaluable member of A.O. Reed & Co., a top mechanical contractor in San Diego and Los Angeles specializing in new construction, sheet metal fabrication, HVAC, and plumbing. Since joining BOMA San Diego in 2011, Michele has actively built her leadership skills, crediting BOMA for helping her establish a strong professional foundation. Along the way, she discovered her passion for connecting with people, learning their stories, and supporting them in reaching their goals. Currently, Michele serves as co-subchair of both the Communications Committee’s Member Monday feature and the Membership Ambassador Program. Her past roles include Chair of the Community Service Committee and Vice Chair of Awards & Scholarships. Michele describes herself as hardworking, loyal, and generous, qualities inspired by her mother, her greatest role model. With over 40 years in the insurance industry, Michele’s mom taught her the importance of teamwork, showing up every day ready to serve clients, and continually investing in personal growth and education. Outside of work, Michele enjoys Taekwondo, a new hobby that’s introduced her to a vibrant community. She’s also an avid traveler and photographer, often capturing memories at BOMA events for social media. A dedicated reader, Michele recommends The Ride of a Lifetime by Bob Iger, Die with Zero by Bill Perkins, and Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. Tom Lafever, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, is our featured BOMA San Diego Member. Tom works with ICW Group Insurance Companies, a nationally recognized industry leader, quoting more than $3.5 billion annually. Tom's role within ICW Group encompasses various facets, including property owner, property manager, project manager, owner representative, and team leadership. Managing class A office spaces totaling nearly 300k sq ft across the nation, Tom's expertise shines through. A first-year BOMA member and scholarship winner, Tom joined to learn from peers and make a positive industry impact. As the industry evolves, he values continuous learning and sharing experiences with colleagues. Born and raised in San Diego, Tom is dedicated to maintaining the city's excellence as a community and destination. A proud University of Redlands graduate, he cherishes the relationships built at the institution. Married for nearly 25 years to Christina Lafever, a native San Diegan, they have two children, Charlotte and George. Tom enjoys ocean activities, biking, and motorcycle racing, sponsored by Pacific Beach Yamaha. Meet Brandi Mu?oz, a Property Manager with Irvine Company and a valued member of BOMA. Originally from Orange County, Brandi relocated to San Diego in support of her husband’s Naval career. Before entering property management, she worked in hospitality at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, which she loved, but sought more traditional hours to spend time with family. After a friend's recommendation, Brandi applied for an Associate position with Irvine Company in 2018 and has been thriving ever since. She enjoys the dynamic environment and the collaborative culture among the San Diego team, saying, “We team so well!” She describes her co-workers as exceptional and chairs the organization's internal Waste and Recycling Committee. A BOMA member for two years, Brandi appreciates the learning opportunities, especially the Women in Business series and Life Science seminars. When not working, you can find her with her two-year-old boxer, Rome, at local dog parks.
