BOMA is empowering the people and places most impacted by climate change. Our goal is to end extreme poverty in Africa.
关于我们
BOMA is a Kenyan-based non-profit (also registered in the U.S.) that implements a time-bound graduation model (REAP) in six countries throughout the drylands of Africa. Through adapted programs that target women, children, climate-impacted communities, refugees and internally displaced populations, and youth, we aim to build the resiliency of individuals and households living in extreme poverty so they can feed their children, pay for school fees and medical care, invest in families, and survive shocks such as drought or medical emergencies. Since 2009, BOMA has established 44,559 sustainable businesses and 6,461+ savings groups, enrolled 133,677 participants, and transformed the lives of over 804,000 people. Our goal is to scale our reach via government adoption to reach three million individuals by 2027. Together, we can help foster prosperity through dignity for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in Africa.

Today, we had the honor of hosting Leigh Stubblefield, Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director of the UK to Kenya, in Isiolo, where she was joined by BOMA's CEO, Dr. Sam Owilly, key government officials from Isiolo County, including the Department of Social Protection, and Kuza Jamii consortium partners. Together, they visited key Kuza Jamii projects in Kina. As the prime organization in the Kuza Jamii consortium, BOMA works with partners across eight counties, with Village Enterprise implementing the program in Isiolo. Kuza Jamii has reached over 1,100 participants in Isiolo County, empowering communities through financial inclusion and economic resilience. She engaged with VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) members, witnessing firsthand how these community-driven groups empower individuals through savings, loans, and social funds. She also visited Nasole SACCO in Kina, which connects VSLA members to essential government services like SHA, provides livestock insurance through the World Bank and the Government of Kenya, and links participants’ businesses to market opportunities. A key highlight of the visit was the Isiolo Abattoir, which, once operational, will serve as a crucial market hub for Kuza Jamii participants in Isiolo, Samburu, and Marsabit. It will enable them to sell livestock for meat processing, creating opportunities for both export and local markets. She wrapped up the day with a meeting and dinner alongside Habiba Guyo, First Lady of Isiolo County, and H.E. Dr. James Lowasa, Deputy Governor of Isiolo County. Today we celebrate ?????? World Wildlife Day! Eradicating extreme poverty and conservation go hand and hand, you simply can't have one without the other. That's why we take an intersectional and adaptive approach to our program design, particularly to build climate resilience, promote ecosystem conservation, and create sustainable livelihoods. We are excited about our newly launch SOIL program in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation starting in northern #Kenya, and making our way up to the Simien Mountain region in #Ethiopia. ?? Strengthening Nutrition & Health Messaging Through Solar Crank Radios! ????? We recently visited participants in Moyale under the LISHE BORA program, implemented by BOMA.ngo and saw firsthand how solar crank radios are transforming nutrition and health communication. Families and neighbors actively tune in to essential nutrition messages in their local dialects, reinforcing key health practices and driving Social and Behavior Change (SBC) at the household level. ???? This innovation is bridging the gap in access to vital health information, empowering communities for a healthier future! ??? #LISHEBORA #Nutrition #HealthMessaging #SBC #CommunityImpact #FieldInsights
