    Since 2016, we've worked with Shopify to create tailored, customer-first content at scale. It's allowed us to create deeper and more seamless connections with our customers, especially with the help of adaptive tools like Shopify's bundling capabilities, endless aisles, and a unified point of sale system for .com and brick-and-mortar. Ahead of our busiest time of year, our Chief Commercial Officer Katia Unlu (Muratova) spoke with the Business of Home about our longstanding relationship with Shopify, and how this partner platform has revolutionized our approach to retail and e-commerce. Our recent (and swift) replatform to Hydrogen, Shopify's headless framework, is just one example of major upgrades we’re able to make at pace: as Unlu shares, moving to Hydrogen "enables us to tailor our front-end presence in a matter of minutes to reflect our brand story and values, then smooth follow through with sales."     What does it take to challenge the entire supply chain of a longstanding industry? Our founders Scott Tannen & Missy Tannen share the incredible story behind Boll & Branch on this week’s episode of How I Built This with Guy Raz, a podcast featuring interviews with the world’s most inspiring entrepreneurs. What started over 10 years ago as a simple remodel of their bedroom has blossomed into upending the bedding industry’s conventions by doing things the right way, never the easy way—and creating the world’s softest bedding in the process. Missy, our Chief Product Officer, shares, “For us, it wasn’t about sourcing a product, it was about making it from scratch, and knowing everything about it from start to finish. We just wanted to know that the people on the other side of the world who were making our product weren’t being taken advantage of.” For Scott, our CEO, it sparked the question, “What if we’re not just building a business, but proving something?” Rather than being “a part of the system,” he has remained focused on Boll & Branch leading by example with full traceability in our supply chain, showing the world that there is a better way to do business.     What does it take to disrupt a category? ?? Last week, founders of L'AVANT Collective, Lindsay Droz and Kristi Lord, CFA, joined us for an employee Lunch & Learn where they shared their #startup story, along with their views on what it takes to create a thriving business that innovates in an established category—in their case, cleaning products. Here are our team's top takeaways: ? CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE TIME FOR IT: “We met in 2009, and in 2018, Kristi said, ‘Let’s go to Mexico. It's my 40th birthday, and we’re going to go sit on the beach and build our business plan.’ That’s exactly what we did. We wanted to get clarity around what we wanted to build. As soon as we had our L’AVANT Collective LLC, we left our jobs, and it was game on.” – Lindsay ?? SUCCESS IS NOT LINEAR: “You have a lot of stops and starts when you start a company. It took almost 2 years to get our formulas right, 3 years to launch, and it taught me—as someone who’s goal and process oriented—that you have to have patience, and you have to ride the waves.” – Kristi ?? COMPELLING STORYTELLING DEMANDS AUTHENTICITY: "People are hungry for what your brand is made of. We realized that the story is so much greater than the perfection, and it’s the story that people are buying into. We really believe that authenticity is what has driven our engagement, and built trust with our community.” – Lindsay ?? ENTREPRENEURS EMBRACE THE UNKNOWN: “Acquired podcast Co-Host, Ben Gilbert says, ‘Entrepreneurs are unreasonable.’ For me, it’s having this belief in myself, in Kristi in the team, in our product.     Challenging long-standing industry norms can be a lonely business, so it was amazing to see our Founder and CEO, Scott Tannen, in good company at the 2024 Fast Company Innovation Festival. On the panel Building a More Responsible Supply Chain, Scott sat alongside Joke Aerts (Head of Credible Scaling, Tony's Open Chain, Tony's Chocolonely) and Kimberly Shenk (Cofounder and CEO, Novi Connect), both of whom are making meaningful inroads upending exploitative methods in supply chain management, bringing a new level of transparency and accountability to their industries. The path of honesty, as all three shared, is unquestionably harder, but vital in bringing better products made in better ways to market.
