Effective Communication Pro Tip: Embrace the power of the pause. Resist the urge to immediately fill every silence. Well placed pauses add emphasis and gravity to your words, increasing their impact. They also allow your listener to absorb and process what you’ve said. Let silence become your best friend! hashtag #communication hashtag #pause hashtag #effectivecommunication hashtag #impact

Effective communication is like a good Wi-Fi connection When it's strong, everyone stays connected and on the same page, but if it’s weak or full of interference, the message gets lost and people scatter. One way to keep everyone on the same page is to explain complex concepts using analogies. Analogies transfer information or meaning from one subject (a familiar one) to another (unfamiliar one). They use comparison to trigger someone’s knowledge of a familiar topic so they can relate to something that is unfamiliar to them. Here are a few tips to help you use analogies successfully: ?? Choose topics familiar and relevant to your audience to form your comparisons ?? Don't overuse – one or two per talk is plenty ?? Make your analogies memorable by connecting two topics they wouldn’t normally associate with each other. Example: Just as a caterpillar comes out of its cocoon, so we must come out of our comfort zone. Tip: Test your analogies on a friend.. If they get it, your audience likely will too! #CommunicationSkills #Analogies"

Eye contact can be an introvert's kryptonite! To make eye contact effectively, it’s important to ?? look individual audience members directly in the eye for about 3 seconds. The trick is to hold the gaze long enough, but not too long. ??Then move on to another audience member. ??Don’t move down a row or be too systematic about who you engage with. Skip around the room, being sure to cover all parts of the room. You'll appear engaged and your audience will feel like you are speaking to them. Pro tip: In virtual meetings, look at the camera when making key points, not the faces on the screen.? You've got this! #IntrovertCommunication #EyeContactTips"

Speak Their Language: Master Communication for Your Audience ??? Research industry-specific terms ??? Avoid jargon with non-experts ??? Use analogies to explain complex ideas ??? Ask for feedback to ensure understanding Tip: Creating a glossary for each audience type can be a game-changer! #EffectiveCommunication #AudienceEngagement"

Let your hands do the talkingspeak! ?? Master the art of gesturing: ? It’s ok to start with hands at your sides ? Match your gestures to your words Use open palm gestures for honesty ? Open palm gestures communicate honesty Match gestures to your words ? Keep arm and hand movements between shoulders and hips Pro tip: Record yourself and watch back yourself on mute. Are your gestures helping get your message across or distracting from it? #NonverbalCommunication #PresentationSkills"

Craft a Strong Introduction! The kind of introduction you craft depends on the type of presentation you are giving. If your presentation is informative, i.e. you are educating your audience on a topic, the following formula for an introduction can be useful: ?? Introduce yourself ?? Start with a hook: “Did you know…? (a rhetorical question, a startling statistic, or a very brief story) ?? Clearly state your purpose: “Today I intend to…” ?? Give the audience a “roadmap”of the structure of your presentation: I’m going to cover three main topics: “First, I’ll tell you about…, then I’ll explain… and finally I’ll tie it all together…” Remember: As an introvert, thoughtful preparation and organization are your strengths. Use them to craft an intro that creates clarity in the mind of your audience and grabs their attention! #PublicSpeakingTips #IntrovertStrengths"

Exchange your filler words and sounds for pauses "Umm... like... you know... sound familiar? ?? Filler words and sounds are distracting and annoying to your audience. Filler words and sounds often occur because you aren’t sure what you want to say next. This can happen because you haven't practiced enough, or maybe you are presenting in a language that isn’t your native tongue. One of the easiest ways to kill filler words and sounds is to practice more, and here is another technique you can use to reduce your use of filler words and sounds: ?? Record yourself speaking for 3 minutes on a familiar topic to identify your go-to filler words and sounds. At first you will catch yourself using the filler word or sound after you’ve done it. Don’t be discouraged…it’s a good start! It means you heard it! ?? In the next phase of the process, you will catch yourself before you say the word or make the sound. It will feel awkward at first and you might even call it out, but try to say nothing. This creates a pause, which is actually a powerful speaking tool (more on this in another post). ?? Eventually, you will stop saying the word or making the sound altogether, which will allow you to convey your message much more smoothly and coherently. And your audience will thank you! ? How much do you practice your speech before a making big presentation? More is always better! #SpeakClearly #IntrovertStrengths
