After the heartbreaking loss of Kaylee Xiong—just two weeks into her journey at Sacramento State—a memorial scholarship has been created in her name to uplift students following in her footsteps. Kaylee was a talented Valley High grad with a passion for graphic design. Now, the Kaylee Xiong Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 to Valley High students pursuing the same path in college. This initiative, led by her former teacher Brandy Shearer, is a powerful tribute to Kaylee’s creativity, kindness, and ambition—and a beautiful way to give back to the community she came from. Harvard University announced that starting in the 2025-26 academic year, it will offer free undergraduate tuition to students from families earning $200,000 or less annually. Additionally, students from families earning $100,000 or less will have all costs—tuition, housing, food, health insurance, and travel—fully covered. The expansion aims to make Harvard more accessible and will allow about 86% of U.S. families to qualify for financial aid. Eligible students will also receive financial grants to support their transition into and beyond college. This marks the fourth time Harvard has expanded its financial aid since launching its initiative in 2004. Currently, 55% of Harvard undergraduates receive financial aid.
